Title: Dethkarz
Post by RaptorZX3 on 01.11.13 at 19:10:50
Anyone ever tried the game "Dethkarz"?

it's a very nice futuristic racing/action game, and it really shine in Glide, lighting effects everywhere, very well-made. I really liked playing this game at the time. But unfortunately it received very little attention from reviewers and not much ads were done.

They were working on a N64 version of the game, but they cancelled the development.

here are some infos you may found interesting.

i have 2 PCs here i tested the game on to try which one is the best for the game:

Setup 1: Pentium 3 800Mhz slot-1 100FSB, 512mb SDRAM PC100, Radeon 7000 + 2 x Voodoo 2 12mb in SLI using FastVoodoo2 4.6 (mismatched cards), SB Live. Board: Asus P2B-DS)

Setup 2: Pentium 3 866Mhz S370 133FSB, 512mb SDRAM PC133, Voodoo3 3000 AGP, SB Live. Using last stable official drivers. Board: Gigabyte GA-6VXE7+ rev 3.0)

With the same details and settings in-game, for some reasons the Voodoo3 AGP setup run the game slower than the Voovoo2SLI setup.
Is it because the Voodoo2 cards are dedicated to 3D-only and RAM is used only for Glide games?

Compare the glide library from the two set of drivers.

i could only say which PC run the game better...and i don't have all the games, and i may take way too long to do!

But i want to know why the game run slower on a Voodoo3 while it run fine on a Voodoo2SLI setup.

If I'm not mistaken it was well known that a voodoo2 SLI setup could still beat aevery voodoo3 card, except for the 3500.

I will test this on my dual xp machine, where there's no way the cpu could be the limiting factor

AFAIK a V2SLi rig should be score between Voodoo3 2000 and 3000 cards.

As I said previously (without knowing the extent of the difference) could be a matter of driver. RaptorZX3 should try to compare glide libraries of both driver packages for Voodoo2 and Voodoo3. Eventually He could try to swap dlls each other to see if this benefits one card rather than the other. At least, this is what I would try to inquire.

I can make a nice benchmark result chart, with a voodoo2, 3 all versions and a voodoo5.for comparison.

on my Pentium 4 1.6Ghz, 512mb DDR266, Monster Sound MX300 and V5500 AGP (with last stable official 3DFX drivers), with everything maxed out in the game, and locked at 60fps, it practically never drop a single frame (with LOD BIAS to -2 as well, so best quality).

But yes this game contain a benchmark you can run externally.

But for some reasons, this game crash on most of my setups (3x Pentium 3 and Pentium 4) when you quit the game. It doesn't crash on my P200MMX though, but it's slow as hell for that game, even when using a V2 8mb and 128mb SDRAM PC100.

I have also used Dethkarz as benchmark for my graphics cards. Read information on how to benchmark and see screenshots here: thandor.net - benchmark - Dethkarz

I ran benchmarks on 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768.

Using a fast CPU the Voodoo2 SLI (Maxi Gamer3D2 8MB and Helios 3D Voodoo2 12MB) seems to outperform the Voodoo3 2000/3000 on lower resolutions but on higher resolutions they are slightly ahead on the Voodoo2 SLI. The SLI setup in the Pentium II 450 falls far behind the Voodoo3!

Unfortunately I have not included all the benchmarks (i.e. Voodoo3 3000 on the Pentium III 1400 is not included). That's one to add in the far far future :D.

strangely, none of my Pentium 3 board support Tualatin CPUs, only up to Coppermine ones, and the best i have for 100FSB is a 800Mhz Slot-1, and for the 133FSB is a 866Mhz S370 which i can use with a S370-Slot1 converter.
And i think only 1 board i have can fully use the 133FSB, and if i use it on a 100FSB board it's going to be slower, it won't be 866Mhz.

What suck is the version of the game i have, i tried many cracks for it and none worked. I wanted to crack it because i wanted to install it on 2 setups i have connected in 2-players LAN here, so 1 would work without the cd.
