Title: DirectX vs. WinNT
Post by FalconFly on 07.03.06 at 23:30:42
Hmmm...

Looking around at my own DirectX Download Section, I wondered about old discussions about WinNT and DirectX.

Originally, WinNT was always reported to have no support for DirectX, but seems that is not true.

I've found an official DirectX6 for WinNT and some unconfirmed DX8+ ones as well. Apparently, SP5 for NT already integrated DirectX 3.0.

Does anyone have deeper insights if installing higher DirectX Versions requires certain workarounds ?

There was a Chinese version of directx8 floating around the net. I snagged it and tried to install it on my Mercury System. It seemed to install fine (taking all the defaults) then I got an error. Since I can't read Chinese, I bailed out and gave up then restored the image I made before I started.

DX3, and even then that relates only to certain sound and input functions if I remember correct.

I read somewhere that anything above DX 6 requires 'hacks' to work...

...but it was ages ago and I can't remember where?
