Title: nVidia revives 3dfx
Post by rottentreats on 01.04.11 at 14:46:49
For one day, April fools is a bitch. It would be awesome if this little trick brought up a real discussion about bringing back a Voodoo series of cards.

Here is the background on the page if anyone is interested. (fairly high resolution at 2220x1648)

it's funny even, at one hand they say the card would have 233 VSA-100 chips, and on the other hand "we made no alterations to the chips"

I'd like to see the card built for reals. 12 pci-express cards, each card the length of a V5 6000 and loaded with chips :)
And that they would also revive their secretive mobo build, with 12 pci-e slots to accomodate the cards, and to make it complete, revive; together with Quantum3D, the Quicksilver system line with this being the ultimate setup :)

They would make millions...nVidia would be stupid not to :)

The site 3dfx.com/geforce.com is still showing the joke, while things are changed a bit:

-Background (Voodoo5 face wallpaper) is turned into a classic nVIDIA background

-The 3dfx logo is disappeared; now replaced by the GeForce logo

-The article "Introducing the 3dfx Voodoo 590" doesn't lead the page anymore, although still present together with 3dfx ads article.

The news about the fake Voodoo 590 was edited a bit.

They cut the last parts ( ::)), while added a link to a video on YT:

Intersting find, goriath.   ;)  How were you able to find the images on the site?  And how did you know the site was active a few days before the article?   :)

I tried visiting www.3dfx.com but it re-directs me to www.geforce.com.

When I try to visit the site with sub-directories, I get a 'Directory Listing Denied' error.   :(

What also is on the 3dfx website?  What else did NVIDIA upload?  Or another interesting question, what else remains?

On 1 April 2001, 3dfx.com site was showing like that:

http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/4949/3dfxcomnews.jpg

As you can see, it was reactived in order to prepare the joke;) In News section there was the article "Introducing the 3dfx Voodoo 590", while there was an 3dfx ads.

Now the page has changed, and display what the geforce.com site display too. But you can still find the 3dfx asd.

I noticed that something was moving because sometimes I check the old 3dfx url...'cause of nostalgia I think :P
