Sort of a survey...
08.07.05 at 18:39:15

I have been thinking about replacing the tile in my bathroom for some time now. I can't stand the "Pink" border. I keep seeing these Voodoo2 chips popping up on ebay from the same seller. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4663&item=7529443772&rd=1 I'm pretty sure the seller has more. So the question/survey is: Do you think I should do it? Use these chips as replacement tiles. I will probably run into some resistance from the wifey-pooh. I know it won't increase the value of the home but that's okay cause I plan to retire here.

I think it would be a waste of the chips  Roll Eyes Lips Sealed

You'd better stick to tiles with painted 3dfx logo's. That would be a lot more beautiful.

That would look a bit to "busy" in the bathroom.

Was chatting with a friend and came up with another idea...

A workbench for the garage

That will get some of these computers out of the kitchen.

I don't think I'll have trouble with the Ol'Lady on that one Grin

I'm going to do some calculations to see how large and what dimentions I can get with this lot Wink

My god, friend I hope Your joking.
By the looks of it you are, because those chips can be used for better things. One thing you can do is to fix broken V2 cards, I don't know if you use your V2 cards a lot? I know I do.
Or someone could use them to build a new V2 card, or a system using V2 chips (a kind of arcade machine).
Anyway anything is better than to use them as tiles or keychains!!!!!!!!!

@Gamma742 - nope, honestly a VERY bad idea! Angry

The chips would be better put to use to fix broken V1 / V2 cards! 8)

I agree with @3Dfx_tweaker and @Thandor - and that's three votes to two...overruled methinks! Roll Eyes Tongue

Nah don't use them like that, if they were defective sure, but as long as the chips are good they will be better used for the ideas the other members were mentioning.

Yeah your probably right. But is anyone actually going to use such a large quant. of chips for repair. If I have a bad V2 card I just toss it and pick up another on ebay. The most prized V2 of all time (to me) was the 200SBi, I can pick one up today BIN price $125.00 USD As for the more common ones $5.00-15.00 True, I'd probably try to repair the SBi.

Think about it. A table or book shelf to display your Voodoo collection on. Some of your guys have done some nice work on your displays. Do you think using them as a display case background would be worthy. Come on guy! Use your amagination, 480 chips. If you had them and weren't going to keep them in their original box what would you do with them?

I'm sure I'll have plenty left over for repair purposes and or gifts to a few collector friends, maybe even a few (dare I say) keychains Lips Sealed

480 chips for repairs is not very much when you look at it, it all depends how many users want to use there V2 cards. And need to repair them, You will have some spare V2 chips, but what about the others....

Why don't you paint your tiles?? Or print something on it. When you want to make a nice display why don't you just use your imagination. And make something out of wood, a custom made display cass out of wood, with the 3dfx logo carved in it. That's much more creative than using working chips.

Hm, I would only think about the stability and ruggedness (or lack thereof) that the Voodoo2 Chips offer.

It would likely be required to add a transparent layer of scratch-free material, in order to keep things intact and nice.

Gamma is right, far cheaper to pick up another board, or even just use a common board for parts when you get right down to it.

But if you need the chips. It's easier to have loose chips then remove the chips of the existing boards  Roll Eyes

Heheh!! Yeah your probably right. I don't know why my wife puts up with me. One day she told me that we don't spend enough time together, I'm always in my "computer room". So I installed an eight port hub/switch in the kitchen and ran a crossover cable (in the walls through the ceiling) did a nice job. She wasn't impressed. All she wants to do is watch TV and Me. Well, isn't it obvious...
