Title: Return to Castle Wolfenstein defaulting to Voodoo
Post by whodovoodoo2man on 28.05.03 at 15:46:30
Hi,

I have the following system set-up

Pentium II 450MHZ
384MB RAM
Intel 440BX Mobo
Geforce 2 Titanium 64MB AGP GFX card.
Voodoo 2 PCI card
Running Windows 2000 with SP 3

I have the Voodoo 2 card for use with Red Baron 3D, my sole Glide based application.
I'm using the official Win2K drivers downloaded from this site

I recently purchased a S/H copy of Return to Castle Wolfenstein, which is an Open GL application, however I'm convinced that the Voodoo 2 card is accelerating the graphics, which I don't want as the Geforce will do a better job in this case.

Can someone advise me as to why this might be happening, and how I could circumvent the problem.

Cheers

Andy

If you don't want to have the Voodoo2 render any OpenGL Graphics at all, simply delete its entry from the Registry, where all available OpenGL Renderers are listed.

Otherwise, you 'might' be able to change the "Adapternumber" from the Game's configuration file, but not all Games do allow this type of hand-configuraton.

The GL subdir contains two special optimized Wicked3D files where one is for V3 and the other for V4/5. I had crashes with these when i used the voodoo2 and so i deleted that dir. Then I had the problem that RTCW always wanted to used the default opengl of my ati rage pro wich crahed during intro instead of the 3dfxvgl. You can rename system/3dfxvgl to something else, start rtcw now using default ogl and remembering it, and then rename 3dfxvgl back.

Regards,
Andreas

Arrrrgh!

Deleting the drivers you mentioned didn't work! :-/

I just get a grey screen, with sound! :'(

I'm fairly new to the PC so I need some step by step instructions if it comes to editing the registry. ???

I really only want the Voodoo card to cut in for Glide, I'll let the Geforce handle everything else.

The screen as it would look like under Win98 :

(Here, my ATI is listed as the only OpenGL Device)

The Voodoo2 OpenGL Driver should be named something like 3dfxVGL.dll , and will be listed in the Registry under OpenGL Devices.
Your NVidia Card should be listed as something like NVOGLNT.DLL in the same Registry Key...

create an empty *.txt file, rename to glide2x.dll and put it to directory where your wolfsp.exe is located.works for me.(I dont have a voodoo card, but i have a wrapper, and wolf uses it instead of using the real card.I believe its almost the same.)
