Motherboard form factors - ?
29.07.05 at 18:28:18

Hi there!
I have received a huge PC tower, with inside an old motherboard (socket 5) which measures 33*22 cm! It must be installed horizontally and I've never seen such a strange format for a mobo!

Can anyone tell me the name of the form factor used? Because it looks like the tower screw holes won't let me put a newer slot 1 ATX mobo!

I finally found the motherboard on the ASUS site. It was difficult to find it because even though the mobo is a socket5, it was listed as a socket7!

Here is the link to the mobo page:  [http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us]ASUS support page[/url] (choose Motherboard, Socket7 and PCI/I-P54TP4)

So the model name is PCI/I-P54TP4. I don't know what's the name of this form factor? Is it AT?

here are the pics, that's the way the mobo is meant to go in the tower, horizontaly (keyboard port on top left).

Well judging by the power connector on the mobo it is an AT board.
You might have some difficulties with this box...
hope you are handy with various tools, you will probably need to make new holes to fit the ATX screws positions and also very possible that you will have to do some mayor cutting on the backpanel.
If you like metalworking go for it, if not get another box

(some pics of the box's backplate would be useful to see)

I did some backplate mods once due to low funds and I would really suggest to use some proper tools (when I was doing it I just had a small drilling machine and some mid sized cutters and it really sucked)

Well, earlier (October 1995) we had a Pentium 75 which had such a longer AT motherboard too.
My 386 and 286 motherboard are the same size too.

The formfactor is AT.
The smaller boards are named : Baby AT

It's nothing special though Wink

I know it's nothing speacial, but the case where it was is huge and would have been perfect for putting a newer ATX... but no right holes and wrong backpanel...

Thanks all!
