Title: Voodoo^2 glide2x trouble
Post by 3dfx user_001 on 22.11.04 at 18:50:13
I have a problem with my old voodoo2.  I'm running it with a ATI 9600XT, and the only drivers that work with it are the Fast Voodoo 4.0ge.  If I try to use the 3dfx reference drivers I get black artifacts and screen corruption on the windows desktop, and within about 30 seconds my display is totally corrupted and unusable.  The Fast Voodoo drivers fix this problem but...

There's a problem with the glide2x file in the Fast Voodoo drivers.  Nothing that uses the glide2x API will actually run on it.  It seems that the glide2x file isn't really a glide ICD, but a "translator" that interprets glide2x calls and switches them to glide3x calls.  So the glide2x support in these drivers is essentially a glide2x wrapper to glide3x.  Nothing I have that uses glide2x will run on this wrapper; the result when trying to run a glide2x program is either 1) a half-rendered screen and system lockup 2) a black screen and system lockup.  There's nothing wrong with the card itself, it will run glide3x all day with no problems.

I've tried switching out the glide2x file to an actually 3dfx provided glide2x.dll, but if I do this the graphical corruption--on the windows desktop, which I think is quite weird, I don't understand how swapping out the glide2x.dll affects the 2d desktop display--returns.  Has anyone else experienced this problem and found a workaround?

I have experienced this,it happens with all directx9 radeons when running a glide2x application.this is caused by the new catalyst drivers (seems like some very old releases didnt have this problem),and there is nothing you can do about it.simply restart your pc after you are done playing the glide game..

no.removed all ati stuff completely, installed only the driver (and I need the driver, right ::)) but the problem is still there..too bad,I know that geforces dont have this problem (actually it is the only real advantage of gf cards over radeons, gfs are 100% voodoo2 compatible-but even this was not enough to win me for the geforce side.I simply dont deal in nvidia cards :D)

..seems like the original 3dfx glide2x ver. 2.56.00.0456 (its in the beta directx7 win9x voodoo2 driver, get it here) works without the desktop corruption as well (under 9x and xp alike).I almost cant believe the solution was so simple..I was trying to find a solution for the desktop corruption for three months (had limited succes with koolsmoky's glide2x release),had ton of problems, and now one small idea about using an older glide2x version and the prob is fixed in 5 minutes.life is WEIRD.
