Official Drivers?
25.01.06 at 05:35:19
Hello! This is my first post here. I am very tired. Tired of searching all over for basic answers for Voodoo cards. I am the proud owner of a Voodoo 3 3500 AGP TV video card and a Voodoo 5 5500 AGP video card.
I'm about to build a legacy machine. What is a legacy machine. It's a PC that will run all of my old stuff that my newer XP operating system wouldn't even consider running. This stuff includes my Voodoo 3 3500 video card, my Saitek joystick, my Visioneer One Touch scanner and my Syquest Sparq internal removable drive along with a few other pieces of hardware and several games.
I have a couple of questions. The first one is this:
For the Voodoo 3 3500 AGP W/TV card, is or was there ever an officially released and supported driver for it under the Windows 2000 Operating System? I see about 3-4 drivers in the driver section but they all have that evil word "Beta" in the description. If any of these work, how well do they work?
The next question is this:
Of all of the Windows 98SE drivers I see on the list here, which is the best one? I'm assuming it would be the latest released one with the highest version number.
Thanks for any help any of you can provide. I'm still sickened by the idea that 3DFX is gone but I thank God that there are still some sites like this one that are keeping the light on. Thanks!

Well, the 3dfx Win2000 Voodoo3 3500 V1.06.00rc1 Driver was the latest one they officially released on 22 Nov 2000.
While being only a Release Candidate, it's not a 100% final Release but certainly no Beta either. It should work just fine.

Well, first off, welcome to the posts. The guys here know quite abit about Voodoo's and we have some major collectors here as well (some owning the V5 6000's).
Some of the other guys on here will have better answers regarding the 3500 cards, I don't have one but as far as 98SE and the V3 3000 and a V5 (got both of those), the best one seems to be the Amega Merlin 2.9 drivers. I'm running some older DOS games and some 95/98 games that won't run in WinXP and haven't had any problems with them. The other drivers that seem to work ok on 98 is the 3dhq beta 10 drivers.

Good stuff people! OK, here is what I did. I got an IBM PC with a Pentium III 733 chip in it with 512mb of sdram. I installed Windows 98SE and patched it up the best I could. I then installed the Voodoo 3 3500 AGP w/TV card into it. I installed UT (my favorite game), tweaked it and ran time demo stats on it. The highest framerate I've seen so far is 93! It tends to bounce around between 50-75 usually. I'm very pleased. I have a functioning Voodoo card again. My 5500 AGP is in my mom's PC where it will remain nice and safe until it finally dies. I may pull it out and use it someday but this little 3500 is kicking plenty of butt already.
Next questions are these: Video BIOS, mine on this 3500 has a date like 02/15/02 sr something rather. Do need to update this. I'm big on running the latest greatest stuff usually. Not adapted stuff but legit code to the highest officially supported level. Should I risk a BIOS update? What is the latest bios update for my card anyway? I may already be using it.
When I first got the card installed, it put this little blue icon that looked like 3 tiny TVs with antenas in the system tray. A few reboots later, it is gone. What is that about? Each time I reboot, I get a pleasant quick green screen for a sec before bootup. If I cold boot, the screen is red and mobo bios beeps 1 long and 3 short for a VGA error. It works fine. I can't figure why it does this. Only on cold boots.
Does Voodoo 3 3500 not have that settings icon for voodoo in the system tray like my old Voodoo 3000 did? Maybe I;m getting it confused with my 5500. Oh so many Voodoo cards!
Thanks again for your help. The links in the sig for ps47 really really hit the spot too! Later

hmm interesting 93 fps on a V3 3500 in UT 1999, what Reso did you use?
93 frames per sec max on a V3 3500 in a P3 733 is amzing hehe but indeed just a max speed hit heeh mostly was 50 to 75 fp so avr would be minimum +mediuim + Max FPS devide that in 3 and you avr FPS should be
50 fps + 75fps + 93fps = 218/3 = 72.67 fps
very neat indeedy do 8)

I have it set on 1024 X 768 using 16bit. Tonight I also installed Red Baron 3D, Warlords Riegn of Heroes, Warlords Dark Lords Rising, Revolt (a very fun little racecar game with remote control cars) and a few other things. Ihave put in a cd burner too. More still to come. It actually runs pretty fast. This site is going to keep my Voodoo cards in business a long time. Thanks! For the record, I'd say it (Voodoo 3 3500) stays around 65FPS. I walked up to a wall to get 93.

Tonight I ran the standard Timedemo 1 for my UT install. My average cycle after cycle was 59fps. I like that! What I don't like is that Yahoo messenger detected my system and suggested I use a cut back version of yahoo instant messenger. I chose the full version anyways.
Interesting: MSN Messenger runs video good but not as good as Yahoo. Sound is better in MSN for sure. Yahoo is designed for video quality where MSN is designed for voice quality. Of the two, MSN kicks butt on yahoo because it works. More on this later. I gotta go. Drank too much. CYA

What is the latest official BIOS for my Voodoo 3 3500 TV card? Should someone update a bios for one of these or just leave it alone. This video card struggles with video conference on MSN and Yahoo messenger. Maybe it isn't the card but I have a fast fast connection and the OS is alright. Plenty of ram.

New record for my little guy! I hit 95fps for a sec playing UT yesterday and I didn't walk up to a wall to do it. It just happened. Now somebody needs to answer my earlier questions. Do I dare try to update my BIOS on the vid card?
For this 3500 w/ TV what is the latest OFFICIAL driver for WIN98SE?
Thanks!

Thanks! I got it and installed it. I also upgraded the VisualReality to XXXX.05 which is it's latest OFFICIAL release. I tested the TV and it is fine.

New record for fps on my little Voodoo card. I can do a flyby in deck 16 and can hit up to 149 fps. The time demo still has about a 59fps avg.

hmm that would be nice
does your Voodoo3 3500 TV AGP have 5ns SDRAM or just the normal 5.5ns SDRAM ? If you have 5ns SDRAM you could process extreme Overclocks with it
