Title: Weird Voodoo 2? Post by Maf on 24.06.10 at 20:24:36
Hi there. Today I received a weird Voodoo 2 card. It's written 12MB on it, but there are only 12 memory chips total. No chips on the other side. Is what exactly is this card? (model/manufacturer)
If you're not sure, I can post pics. |

Most probably you have a Powercolor EvilKing2 late model with 1Mb Edo modules. Hope exxe doesn't mind using his pics as example: http://www.tdfx.de/pic/evilking_12mb_02.JPG Cheers, G1nX |

The Voodoo 2-cards directly from 3dfx (V2 1000) were 12 MB with only RAM on one side, too, but they are always black: http://www.tdfx.de/ger/v2_1000.shtml

This is it :) But 'Powercolor EvilKing2' is mentioned nowhere. |

On the Powercolor-cards itself there weren't writings like Evilking, except the Banshees, they had Evilqueen written on the PCB. So your card is perfectly normal for a Powercolor Evilking 2.

Hi, sorry for hijacking this thread, but I have a very similar question to ask. Does anyone know this Voodoo^2 card?
http://lpm2626.free.fr/vente/images/DSCN3656.jpg "VOODOO II 3.0" and "MADE IN TAIWAN" legends printed on the front, "VOODOO2 9902 S/NO: B01 03260" label on the back, reference design with 12 Mb of 110 MHz memory chips. |

Can't tell, not enough distinct markings.

Well it could be an A-trend OEM as you can see bellow the 2.0 board and the tags can vary but usually on the back there can be found a sticker with AT2455 for example: http://www.tdfx.de/eng/helios_v2.shtml Bigger pics front/back of the item in question always help to better id it. |

Sorry, I can't get a bigger picture right now. It doesn't have an A-trend sticker, by the way.
I found out that Osckhar once had another Voodoo2 like this one. I posted the info on his forum and I'm waiting for his reply. |

Like I said;

I also own a board like it without ATC stickers. There's just not enough info on the board itself to say from which manufacturer it came. |

Concerning the v2 3.0 110mhz I'm pretty sure that ur card is a 3Dfx made one. I picked up the same card a week ago apparently they are fairly rare (as the ram comes FACTORY overclocked at 110MHz) also note the 3Dfx logo in the PCB. Hop this helps :D

The 3dfx logo does not mean it's from 3dfx. Many third-party manufactured Voodoo2 cards had the 3dfx logo on them.

A few things about 3dfx built V2 cards they were reference design made between end of 97 and beginning of 98 and most likely made in the USA (not Taiwan). When the card in question was built 9902 3dfx was merging with STB and they then after released what we know as the V2 1000 that has a different pcb then the one pictured above. The 110Mhz doesn't been it operates at that speed only that is rated for it. Normally it operates at 90Mhz as the 3dfx chips, unless the drivers installed and oc tools upped the frequency (as the V2s did not have a BIOS). As NitroX pointed out a lot of 3dfx partners at the time did not bother building a custom pcb with their own logos on it, instead relied on the bigger manufacturers to create reference design ones for them and they just packaged them. So not a rare card just an unknown reseller. The box would've cleared or not the mystery. |
