Title: Mismatched drivers for system
Post by ultima on 06.01.09 at 18:56:42
Hey guys,

I have the following rig I installed recently again:

Gigabyte P3 motherboard
Pentium 3 1.4Ghz tuallie
3GB 133Mhz sdram
40GB ata100
Kyro II 64MB
2 x Voodoo2 12MB

The thing is, the 2 cards I use are different brands, one being Creative, the other Guillemot.

I need a driver that can handle this, I tried the missmatched drivers from 3DFXzone, but no such luck, as soon as I use that driver, rundll32. something is using 100% cpu power all the time.

Can anyone let me know about some working drivers??

Thanks a million

Pim

DOHH!!

windows XP SP3

And I will also be trying to switch primary cards, as I saw in the release notes of the drivers that they previously had trouble with Kyro II based systems.

Will be putting in a SiS agp card, see if that helps.

*EDIT*

Tried with the other videocard, had no effect. UT99 will not start and diablo2 will hang during intro movie.

Seperately thecards work fine, SLI is detected by system, and given the fact that Diablo2 will run fine for a second or 5, I'd say the SLI cable is fine as well.
So, by default, that would mean this is a driver issue.

I have just installed a mismatched sli in my test rig, used the latest koolsmoky's driver (readded the original memory mapper, its not compatible with nforce chipsets, but much more stable),added the mismatched variable to the registry (see the readme) and I was up and running..

http://helppage.3dfx.sk/200762465834_Voodoo2.rar

edit: I have just remembered that I have made a quick fix file for the mismatched support activation, just run the reg file from the rar if you don't know where to look for v2 registry entries: http://www.3dfx.cz/download/mismatched.rar

edit2: found a screenshot of the settings as well:

sometimes I even amaze myself ;D

OK, thanks for the info so far.

So, lemme get this correct:

the 1st rar file you linked to are the latest coolsmokies drivers, and when I have installed them, I need to do the reg thingie?? And then it should work??

My mobo has a via chipset, so....no nForce for me :)

yup.uninstall the previous voodoo2 drivers, reboot, once xp asks for a driver just point it to the location where you have extracted the first rar.the driver should load, reboot, the second card should install automatically.if not, just point it to the location again.

after another reboot, run the reg file from the second rar,and everything should be ready..

Well, it seems it didn't go as well as planned.

All the cards work fine seperately, but as soon as I SLI them, problems start.
Windows will boot fine, no glitches whatsoever.

But as soon as I try to play UT99, it'll freeze after a few seconds of intro movie.
I have played UT99 on that rig with the main videocard and it works fine, so I know it's not the game.

What could be causing this?? SLI cable defect?? External vga cable defect??

I would try swapping the cards and using (making?) another sli cable.the external vga cable shouldn't matter..

I have tried everything there is to try, but to no success.

I even tried the V2's in my "new" rig, and installed UT99 there.

The V2 was giving me a nice 55FPS average, and I played with every card for at least half an hour, no problems at all, so I guess it was the SLI cable.

A friend of mine wanted to buy my 3 V2's and he gave me 35 euros for it, I still have my V5 5500 and V4 4500, those cards I will keep.
UT99 runs on that P3 1.4Ghz rig perfectly, giving me a steady 135FPS on 1024x768
