Canopus Pure3D II LX on the hardware list?
23.07.13 at 04:03:27

I noticed there's no picture about the Canopus Pure3D II LX on the "identify your 3dfx hardware" page.

Quickly said, the "LX" version have the same performance as the Pure3D II, except it have no fan pre-installed (but still have the holes and fan connector), and only have the VGA in (Mini-DIN 9-pins) and VGA out (standard VGA 15-pins), no TV out. There are some missing components on the board as well, but they were removed because they are only used by the missing features on the LX card.

Also, this is the reason why i had to make myself a longer SLI cable to plug a standard Voodoo2 to this card, because since i don't have the semi-proprietary pass-thru cable (with the Mini-DIN 9-pin on one side), i can only use it in SLI, and funny enough, peoples who wanted to use 2 x Pure3D II exactly did that: Buying the Normal card, and the LX card for SLI, because it had a lower price point.

Here's a photo of my card:

Nice.. although i don't have the LX model, it took me a while to find my dual Pure3d for SLI combined with the Canopus 2500

i didn't have the VGA 9pin passthrough cable, but with the witchdoctor setup it uses the digital passthrough

Ok it can be used with the other Canopus card, is it the only purpose of that cable? It can't be used for SLI purpose with 2 x Canopus Pure3D II card?

As H-street said, the Wichdoctor cable could be used to send digital video signal of the 3D accelerator directly to the Spectra 2500 instead to use the external analogue pass-through cable. The Spectra 2500 is the only card that can be used as primary in this way. You can add another Pure3D II in SLi, there is the dedicated connector in the middle of the card, right to the VGA d-sub connector.

At that point, you need only to link your monitor to the Spectra and here you go.

I made my witchdoctor cable out of an old Dell accessory cable.

one end is male and hte other end is female..  i unsoldered the pins from the dell accessory and used them in the cable to make it male.

its a funny looking cable, its a ribbon cable with pins on one end Smiley

You can found a cable or built your own on eBay.
Key words for searching are: IDC ISP JTAG RIBBON CABLE

You need 14pins (2x7) 2.54 pitch - female connector to one end, male connector to the other.
