SLI compatibility mode
15.12.09 at 11:59:54

Does anyone know which driver has this option in the tools for the v5, or how to alter it via the reg etc? I remember seeing it in the 3dfx tools at one point but can't remember which driver I was running. So far I've tried 3dfx win2k, amiga 3.5 and x3dfx 1.08 and it never shows up on the advanced options page. I need it because in Metal Gear Solid the menus are all wonky. (text doesn't display correctly in hardware mode) A perusal through the readme mentions having to disable sli on v2's to fix menu corruption so I figured it might work for the v5 as well.

Thanks,
Jack

Yeah I tried that first and it's a no go. The menu problem is there with the 3dfx and x3dfx drivers in single chip mode, the amiga and sfft drivers fix it without changing any settings, can even run with AA. The problem with that is the amiga's crash the game when you try to change resolutions (which causes MGS to revert to software so its default 640x480 only in hardware) and the SFFT won't run AVP Gold. (keeps complaining about not having enough video memory. <sigh>

EDIT:
maybe it's because I'm running 2kpro.

Yeah, try Win98SE. As operating system - Windows 98 sucks BAD, it only supports 512 MB RAM (more only with special tweaks) and it's VERY unstable - even if you let the system run without any program opened - it will eventually crash in a day or two. But - if you want to use old hardware (such as 3dfx) - Windows 98 is the way to go, 2000 and XP support is really bad - it only supports Glide for those systems and the drivers are quite bad.

Nope, I used to love 9x but after it's goofy lba corrupted my 500gb external backup that was the last straw.I popped in my v3 and have no issues at all, so I figure this just some glitch. That's why I was asking about the SLI setting, that is definitely the problem, and while single chip mode should do the same thing in the earlier drivers it's not, and in the later drivers it's not needed. I'd just use SFFT but I've had horrible luck with it when it comes to older games.

Eh, I ran Win 98 for years and years, that never happened on the various platforms I used.

Netscape would take it down on a regular basis, which caused me to simply stop using Netscape.

I ran '98 right up till I purchased a P4 machine back in 2002 or 2003.
