Title: Bumped my Voodoo 3 3Dmark01 World record a bit... Post by TM30 on 24.01.06 at 00:05:59
... its cold outside... so i decided to put my voodoo test pc to an open window in my room and let it run at -16°C. i clocked my XP-M 2600+ at "only" 1,88v to 2786Mhz with only air cooling (okay, its aircooling deluxe, or aircooling extreme ;) ) and a Voodoo 3 (Compaq V3 3500) to 223Mhz. no volt mod was done to do this. only "air" cooling...
i bumped from 3243 auf 3379 points at 3dmark2001... it seems that some tweaks did not work this time. i dont know why... i think the gain would have been greater if all tweaks would work. i will test it again tomorrow. i had to stop today because i only had 1,5°C in my room at the end of testing... http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=8876230 note, the multimeter displays the wrong temperature... damn thing, at the end of my tests it displayed -38°C.... lol |

TERING!!!!!
that's dutch for Holy Crap!!! hahaha MAN This is PURE PWNAGE man it really is cool!!! that's the sickest score I've seen for a V3 3500man, Holy Moley!!! but CPU spedd could go higher since that there are people with rumor's here in NL that reached 2800Mhz and over that with air cooling in thier 21 degrees C rooms , so maybe your CPU can do 3200Mhz instead because -16 C should be cold enough right? or does it depend on what the core can have @ max core voltage and FSB? |

CPU temp -6 C Man that's great for air cooling :)
I don't know how you guys can live in those extreme conditions. I have no idea what that would be like. I have live in such a mild climate for so long, I complain when there is frost on my windshield in the morning :-X That only happen a couple of times a year :P |
Title: Re: Bumped my Voodoo 3 3Dmark01 World record a bit Post by TM30 on 24.01.06 at 11:48:11
its only a suicide-shot... if i would have a better socket A board (like the abit nf7 with nforce2 chipset) i could easily go over 3ghz, because the mosfets of a kt333 can't handle so much power... i set 2V in bios for cpu core and the bios displays me 1,93v...

well you're @ 2983 Mhz now :) very nice , still impressive for Air Cooling 8)

i have a (very bad) digi-cam shot of 2999Mhz ;D
(its 15x200... but in real it only has 199,5Mhz FSB... so still no 3000Mhz... lol damnit ;) ) |

wicked sick...
... but really sick is when using liquid nitrogen (-170°C) or DryIce... |
Title: Re: Bumped my Voodoo 3 3Dmark01 World record a bit Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 24.01.06 at 13:45:58
I think 3200 Mhz is possible on KT 333 only if you can keep those Mosfets cold enough , or would that still be hard even with -16C?
BTW Nice PC Speed to bench your V6K TM30 :) |
Title: Re: Bumped my Voodoo 3 3Dmark01 World record a bit Post by TM30 on 24.01.06 at 16:27:05
yeah but its a risk benching a 6000 at these low temperatures... and i cannot go up to 199Mhz FSB because the hint bridge won't make that... think its gonna work up to 185Mhz FSB...
3200Mhz would be possible if the Athlon XP-M would make it.... (because not all XP make far over 3000Mhz, even with -40°C) , but only with phase-change cooling (below -40°C) |

at the moment iam preparing my second attemt.
i will volt mod that voodoo 3... but i am careful not to destroy it, i only will give a little more voltage... and i will try to increase my voodoo 5 5500 world record aswell... and i will try to get on first position with a STM Kyro 2 card... (Hercules 3D Prophet 4500) |

Any faster records TM30 :) ?
hehe imagine 3500 points with a Voodoo3 3500 hehe would match it's name nicly also ;D |
Title: Re: Bumped my Voodoo 3 3Dmark01 World record a bit Post by TM30 on 26.01.06 at 13:01:24
i am sorry, yesterday and before it wasnt cold enough. on 24.Jan when i tried it outside it only was -7°C ambient, so the CPU temperature raised to +8°C and i got bluescreens... its really astonishing that it makes such a big difference of an ambient temperature of -7°C and -16°C ...
i hope it will get as cold as the first time... then i will volt mod my 3500 and try to reach 230Mhz+ and 3400-3500 points in 3dmark2001 |

in malaysia it would never ever hit 15 C for that matter,
of the entire history living near the equator ::) of course, I missed the chance to test this out while in michigan where -20 to -25 C is not a prob during winter. but I was rather gaming or consuming alcohol LOL |
Title: Re: Bumped my Voodoo 3 3Dmark01 World record a bit Post by Habbs on 26.01.06 at 19:02:15
lol on a real cold day it can get -40 here in Alberta Canada :p But yea this winter has been pretty good not to cold yet ;p

-40°C... one world record would chase another when i would live there ;D |

also bumped my voodoo 4 4500 scores a bit.
card was clocked at 195Mhz... to bad i think... its a crappy card, the cold outside doesnt impress it, because with normal temps i also get 195Mhz with that one... anyone out there with a V4 4500 voltmod? anyway, here are the scores: 2509Points (32Bit): http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=8881123 3698Points (16Bit): http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=8881131 --- tried another 4500, and this made 200Mhz... 2572 /32Bit http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=8881144 3782/16Bit http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=8881150 just4fun, i tried 640x480 16bit also ;) |

last test today.
got that 4500 to 204Mhz resulted in 2613 3Dmarks 1024x768 32Bit http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=8881163 |

3500 points for a V3 3500 great suits it's name also but 5661 on a V4 4500 is crazy :) okay tested in 640 x 480 x16 for both cards still sick to see :)
Nice TM30 what would your V6K do at this Reso? Must be wacko :) ;D ;D ;D |
Title: Re: Bumped my Voodoo 3 3Dmark01 World record a bit Post by TM30 on 29.01.06 at 13:24:59
yeah that 6K... would be really interesting, but not only in benching with low res, but also in the normal 1024x768 res.... but i do not think that i will put it outside ;)

Title: Re: Bumped my Voodoo 3 3Dmark01 World record a bit Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 29.01.06 at 16:40:02
hehe I agree there, though a second Rev.A 3700 would be nice for tests like this but the problem is they aren't that cheap :-X anyways I wouldn't do it either the V6K Has to much pride in it's self :)
Though you could try a 5500 AGP and PCI see what they do, they aren't that rare, they are way too common to be rare hehe. |
Title: Re: Bumped my Voodoo 3 3Dmark01 World record a bit Post by TM30 on 29.01.06 at 17:01:51
yeah i already wanted to test my 5500 AGP which can do 196Mhz (the one i made the WR with) but when i looked at the board i saw that there is missing a transistor... i must have ripped it off somehow... probably because i "stack" often my cards ;)
so i first will have to resolder this part (have to find the same part because i do not have another defective card here) |
Title: Re: Bumped my Voodoo 3 3Dmark01 World record a bit Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 29.01.06 at 17:04:01
hmm outch :-x my PCI goes to 191Mhz without funny stuff hehe in a 22C room but my 5500 won't go past 177Mhz it must depend which cores you have I guess.
the 5500 AGP is a Rev.A 2500 the 5500 PCI is a Rev.A1 2900 a bit newer than the AGP maybe that's the thing I dunno. |
Title: Re: Bumped my Voodoo 3 3Dmark01 World record a bit Post by TM30 on 29.01.06 at 20:38:32
my 5500 AGP is also PCB 2500... but i have selected it... i tried around 7 or 8 different 5500, only one goes 196Mhz. 2 of them went 192Mhz, and the rest below it...
but i have to say that these clocks were only selected for ONE 3dmark01 bench, and not for overall stability... |
Title: Re: Bumped my Voodoo 3 3Dmark01 World record a bit Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 29.01.06 at 21:51:25
oh okay well my PCI did 196 also stable but with glitches here and there, though the system did not lock up. and @ 191Mhz no glitches still a nice speed for a PCI 5500 :) but I think an AGP 5500 would score better at those speeds, because of it's 66Mhz Bus instead of 33Mhz Bus of the PCI.
|
Title: Re: Bumped my Voodoo 3 3Dmark01 World record a bit Post by TM30 on 29.01.06 at 22:39:11
yeah its even higher than 66MHZ AGP Bus because of the high FSB and the lack of a divider above FSB 166Mhz...
