Can anyone help out on this?
How to check the model of a V3 chip http://www.3dfx.ch/gallery/collectors_edmundoab/V3_chip_001 |

It's just an early Voodoo3 chip prior to switching to the new 3dfx logo. I believe?

Seems to be supported by the production date 9910

hay Edmund I've been studying that V3 chip of yours, it's not a V3 1K chip and not a V3 3K5 chip either, So I thinking in the direction of a V3 2K or 3K chip, but then maybe a pre production chip ;)
How did I get this onfo, well, My V3 3K PCI SDRAM has no heat sink and it's powered by a V3 3K5 chip, I got that info from Plasma Online ;) My V3 1K Reads the Following: 355-0025-001 and my Hibryd V3 3K PCI with V3 3K5 chip reads: 355-0024-030 here a full scale link to the photo evidence of my naked V3 3K with V3 3K5 chip, just to be sure on things. ;) http://www.3dfx.ch/gallery/albums/collectors_obiwankenobi/IMAG0177.jpg I got the identification of that V3 chip at that Plasma Online site, the one with the big graphics chip database and Identification analasys database. here the site it's self: http://www.plasma-online.de/ here's a link to the 3dfx section: http://www.idhw.com/textual/chip/3dfx/chippicture.html Listed 3dfx chips by chip photo : http://www.idhw.com/textual/chip/3dfx/chippicture.html Listed 3dfx chips by PCI ID: http://www.idhw.com/textual/chip/3dfx/pciid.html Listed 3dfx chips by name: http://www.idhw.com/textual/chip/3dfx/chipname.html May Force Be With You :) |

Indeed it is a V3 2000 then,
so the 2000 represents V3 2000. Cool! |

well the way I found out was not by reading the number 2000 on the chip but by reading and compareing this number code : 355-0021-001 the first 6 numbers are the most ifformative, the last three are not so important ;)
so only look at 355-0021 and 001, is something not to bother looking at ;) This is how you can indentify what chip you have at that Plasma site ;) |

Shame there isn't anyone who specialises in PCB rework... :P
...we could take an 'ordinary' V3 and have this proto-chip soldered onto it! :o The results would sure be interesting! ;D (bet the benchmarks would be less than a V3 1000!) ::) |

yeah we can solder our own RAM too.
give a V3 DDR3 hehe |

Yeah, and then we could put nVidia out of business and resurrect 3dfx. ;D Come on guys, wishfull thinking ;)

@NitroX - aww, c'mon - it might just be "wishful thinking" but you gotta admit that testing out the beta V3 chip would be cool! 8)

is it a beta voodoo3, it looks more like an early V3. I have seen them before. It could be it is a prototype (pre-release). Anyway, tecnically 3dfx still exists with only 1 employee. So it could resurrect, but don't expect that too happen any time soon. But if people are getting into the improving the reference 3dfx models, I have some ideas ;).

Don't get me started on that, I got enough ideas to last me a life time :-X |

IMHO 3dfx can't resurrect; not in the present and not in the future....Actually 3dfx is still "alive" only for paying creditors and extinguishing all debts...when this will be done, 3dfx will definitively close......Yes, it is tragic, but is the reality... Now, "we are" 3dfx... Reagards |
Title: Re: What V3 chip is this? Post by 3Dfx_tweaker on 30.01.05 at 22:19:46
Well that's nice, I am my own employee. Well If we would have money we could produce 3dfx legacy products ;).

hmm who is that last employee then Alex Leupp? or is it someone else?
We could try a get 3dfx to live again, then we won't need 3dfx Glide emulators anymore :D Only wish that 3dfx would ressurect, man I mis the good ol Voodoo's okay We all have a collection, but we shall never see new ones pop up again, which is a harsh and painfull shame. :'( :'( :'( It wasn't that 3dfx was suduced to the Dark Side but the Dark Side destroyed them... May the Force Be With Us to keep 3dfx up and runn'n in our special way. |
