Title: Anyone else remember seeing this? Post by gdonovan on 25.10.04 at 16:15:10
This weekend I was scouring old game discs looking for old drivers, demos and programs and of course one of the items I was looking for didn't find!
A few months ago on a disc I ran across a 3dfx demo that featured a virtual town square with names like Orchid and Diamond... the demo must have dated back to 1996-1997 and if I remember right also had some sort of browser plug in that would let you view this virtual square via the browser and your 3dfx card. Does anyone else recall this? I didn't get it to work at the time with a V3 but was going to give it another go this weekend with a VI or Rush. |

Ahh, a blazing 10 meg upload on a 33.6 connection.
Notes- 1) Read the 3dfxcity.txt file and then look at the html file for how to move around. 2) Tested with Obsidian 4220 and GF2MX- The GF2MX worked fine under opengl mode with DX9 installed but would not operate with DX5. Opengl mode is nice since on the GF2 I could display in a window, can try a V3 as it might display in a window too. Software mode looks plain bad. 3) Bear in mind this is a demo made for Voodoo Graphics and Rush cards with V2 support tacked on, interesting for the day but not Toy Story graphics. |

The Torch stand alone program had options for software, glide, opengl and matrox. The opengl worked very well in windowed mode with the GF2MX. Yes it was the 3dfx city program with newfire torch version 1.1. I could not get a Voodoo 3 to work except for software mode, a 12 MB Voodoo II worked perfect. |
