Title: Win 98SE and V5 drivers Post by jandarsun8 on 20.11.05 at 09:16:57
I know, the all eternal question. Which drivers is best with a V5 and Win 98SE? :P But I'm going to ask it anyway, what driver set are you guys having the most luck with? The games I'll be playing are kind of old (Shadow Warrior, Duke Nukem, X-Wing Vs. Tie Fighter) but since it's a PIII 866, I'm hoping to run some newer games as well (Ghost Recon, Rainbox Six series, Need for Speed HS, and what ever else that will run under 98 that I have) for right now, I'm using the 3dhq beta 10 drivers. Just wondering what some of you guys are using that are still running 98 or if with the games I'm running, just stick with what I'm using.

Was just looking through the driver section and I've used the AmigaMerlin V2.9 Win9x Driver, actually still using those with my V3 in the pIII 450 I've got, and those seem to be ok. I'm using the beta ten drivers in this box (the PIII 866 with my V5) but I was looking at the Raziel64 Evolution V0.9 Drivers. Had any problems with them at all? Thanks for the input guys.

One last thing I was going to ask. My V5 still has the original fans on it, haven't changed them out, but starting to get worried that since they are that old the posibility of going out are going to be more. This case doesn't have a windowed case (even if it did, I couldn't put my head down to see them turn on every time), I'm wondering what fans are good replacements before these go out and I burn up my card. Again, thanks for any help with this.

It usually the best to stick with your current Driver unless you encounter Problems with specific Games or know a new Game will only run with certain Drivers...
Concerning the Fans, those will usually start making a distinct noise before finally going non-functional. A look at the Coolers every few months and if required unscrewing of Fans + cleaning Coolers/Fans should keep the Card going for a long time :) |

Well, I thought there was but after looking at the downloads section of 3D Realms, I didn't see anything for it, I could swear that you had to change the shortcut for the .exe to point to 3dfxDN.exe or something like that. I know it was a different .EXE file that you could launch for it. I'll look into it and post it in the games section.
By the way, thanks Falcon for the info on the fans and drivers. I've been kind of worried about the fans and was just curious on the drivers. Thanks again guys. |
