Title: Overclocking question
Post by mikulaish on 02.05.06 at 16:55:23
How is it possible to reach FSB speeds of 195Mhz on 8k5a2 mobos? I have seen that TM30 used speeds like this in his world record breaking configurations. If I reach 180, my file system kind of gets busted.

hmm TM30 does have an EPoX EP-8K5A2+ if I can remember :) so does Osckhar they both can easily do 195 Mhz FSB speeds.

TM30 has a plain 8k5a2, but i don't think that the extra raid controller would help. Anyway, still curious...

@mikulaish,
Have you tried with the V5 5500 or v6k? With the v6k is imposible to reach 190FSB...

No worries. I'm trying with my V3 3000 AGP(the one that is still waiting for an original no TV-out bios from you  :P). Still how do you do it? ???

Sorry, you are right! I must check it.

So what is the key to reach FSB 190?  ??? As far as i know the pci clock is too high for the IDE controller at FSB 190.

maybe your RAM timings are too tight

Thanks for the answers. So the PCI frequency close to 40Mhz is not the problem, right?

depends on PCI components you are using... a cheap realtek network adapter can make problems for example.

i use a intel 100pro network adapter and have no problems with high pci clock.

but also try to release the timings of your ram in the bios... or buy better RAM ;)

I have Kingmax Super Ram 512 DDR400, so that should be ok, but than again I have a cheap realtek network card...  ::)

hmm  the 8K5A2+ was the Raid board ofcourse hehe :)

yeah but maybe the RAM Timings are set too tight...

e.g.: CAS Latency set at 2 but the RAM only runs at 3...

I made it now. It was the Realtek card at fault. The ram is CL 2.5 at 400Mhz. The tRas should be 7 at 400Mhz, but it can only be set to 6 and 5. This might be limiting ,but i don't know. I'm waiting for my Barton-M 2600 and than i'll test further.

woei AMD AThlonXP-M Barton 2600+ they seem to be the best OverClockable AthlonXP's , very good choice :P let's hope that ity's an unlocked core aswell :)

@Obi: There is no locked XP-M. They all have non locked multiplyer
@Osckhar:You have IQYHA, I have AQYHA...  :-[

would 3000Mhz be possible on a XP-M, has that ever been reached? the results would be amazing.

Yes, I have IQYHA.

Of course, you only need a good XP-Mobile and a change of phase like cooling. ;)

What's so amazing about a barton 3Ghz? Simple Sempron 64 beats it @ 2.2Ghz...

You can't use an AGP 3dfx card on a Sckt. 939 mobo...

you can use a V4 4500 on an S939 AGP Board ;)

The 3dfx Interactive, Inc. Voodoo 4 4500AGP and the upcoming Intel 'Conroe' processor can even work together. All you need is an ASRock 775i65G Rev2.0 board  :)

Imagine an Intel Core Duo running at a clockfrequency of 3GHz+ feeding your single VSA-100 chip  ;D

You're right, Obi  ;)

imagine that with a Voodoo5 5000/5500 PCI or an AGP2PCI converter with Voodoo5 6000 :)
But then again the ideas are possible only the 3dfx cards will create a large bottleneck since they are at thier maximum fillrates and so on.
