Title: Multithreaded Glide games?
Post by Maf on 12.03.10 at 17:12:09
Well, are there any? To be precize: I'm looking for games using Glide renderer, using multi cpus and working with win2k/xp. The reason: it would be cool to have dual voodoo 2 and dual p2/p3/k7 working together :D

No.

Multithreading didn't become a big(ger) thing untill long after 3dfx was gone.

I agree with Nitrox, I think you're out of luck here. I have been looking into it as well when I had dual MP2800's for my Voodoo 5 6000. ID Software was one of the pioneers (when were they not..) with 'r_smp 1' in Quake 3. By that time Glide was no longer supported in their engine though.

OpenGL with MesaFX is probably as good as it is going to get. That is if your system does not hang when enabling symmetric multiprocessing. I never got it working with Voodoo cards. Despite what others told me back then I still believe the Voodoo drivers are the cause. It worked fine with nVidia stuff.

But maybe there is some obscure game out there that has both Glide and SMP options that I do not know of.

That options is only for dedicated multiplayer server, it doesn't help you to play, only if you have a server hosting games for Quake3. Try enabling that options and start a game - it will freeze very quick :(

Not to mention that Quake3 is OpenGL game, not Glide.
