Well, it was only a question of time, since he really went quite far in many occasions (countless 'close calls' happened already, but those were obviously never shown on TV)
Morale of the story : don't f*ck around with nature, always keep some armored glass inbetween... |

It's a crying shame! :(
Eveyone knew Steve from his EXCELLENT T.V. documentaries... :) ...but like @Falcon said... :P Quote:
In the end - it was an inevitable conclusion that he'd get bit, stung, or skewered by something! :'( Although I do admit...a stingray - D@MN unlucky! :-X |

just a damn coincidence on what has happened, there is no such thing as luck on my beliefs.
but still sad that he's gone, there was nobody as adventurous like good ole Steve Irwin though, the oddest thing is this was also the first ever recorded Fatal attack from a StingRay in Australia. ::) |

Actually, according to what the (MANY) papers are saying - it's the third recorded Stingray fatality in Australia... :P
...Apparently! :-/ |

mkaaay hehe here in The Netherlands I hear other hings but yeah the first death of a Stingray attack in the area it happened ;) but yes it's indeed the third ever taken place, still a crappy way to leave life, but the things Steve did were kinda abnormal, still sad he died such a tragic way, he pulled the dart out then shortly after that he collapsed and died :(
Well there is a Steve Irwin Fund com'n called: "The Crikey Fund" http://animal.discovery.com/fansites/crochunter/steve/statement.html here are all the incidents that happened with StingRays, and all 3 including Steve's fatal attack were in the chest area. "In March 1988, a 12-year-old boy died six days after being punctured in the chest near his heart's right ventricle. The attack occurred while the boy was in a dinghy at Mourilyan Harbour near Innisfail. In the 1930s, a similar stingray chest injury killed a man who was swimming in Victoria. Stingrays have whip-like tails of varying sizes that have sharp spines lined with barbs. "It's like getting hit by a needle with electricity," O'Sullivan told Discovery News. "The pain is very intense." He thinks the barb itself, and not the poison, likely caused the greatest injury to Irwin's heart. "After the puncture, the stingray would have withdrawn its spine," he said. "The barbs pulling out would have inflicted tremendous damage. It would have been like a sawing action." got that from here: http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2006/09/04/stingray_ani.html?category=animals&guid=20060904190030 and this article has some video's also http://www.kcci.com/entertainment/9787714/detail.html |
