Title: Any volt modded voodoo 3000 benchmarks out there?
Post by msdos on 03.09.14 at 16:28:03
I'm thinking of volt modding my voodoo 3 3000 agp card. And before I go buying new a heat sink and ram sinks for the card I was wondering if anyone has any benchmarks of a volt modded voodoo 3000's?

volt modded cards don't score any better then non modded cards, unless you overclock em [/smartass mode off] :D

your best bet would ofcourse be a 3000 with as fast ram as possible, some come with 5.5ns ram, which can probably get you to 200Mhz if you do it right, maybe even without modding.

My suggestion would be to 1st see how far ya can take it without any modding besides adding better cooling paste and a fan on the heatsink, then go from there.

I have lotsa voodoo3 3000's and I have only seen 5.5ns ram on the big cards, the Compaq ones. the "normal" 3000's all have 6ns with mine, which are 7 normal ones and 2 big ones, big ones both have 5.5ns

If ya want I can test one for ya on an XP3000 system, compare it to your system...if ya want that is

search also a 3500, mine has 5.5ns memories !
asa i remember the card runs @215Mhz just with an extra fan added.

I have to check the ram speeds but I think its 6ns. If I recall right I got the card to 183 MHz no problem. I'd like to be able to play some games like quake 3 and ut99 at higher resolution and I can't fit a 5500 in the system. Now a 4500 would be nice, but try and find a agp 4500.

The hdd in my 3dfx system failed and I swapped it out for a 939 setup so I'm going to have to put it back together this weekend. I got a pci sata card that works in windows 98 and I'm going to try installing gentoo on the system as well.
It should be a fun weekend for me.

Edit:
My voodoo 3000 has 6ns ram and I put a lapped eVGA nForce 680i LT SLI south bridge heat sink on the card. Now I don't think the heat sink is the best pick, but I had a few sitting around and thought I'd try it out. The old sink was glued on like the voodoo 4/5 cards. Unfortunately I had to do the same, but I used Arctic Alumina thermal adhesive which should be much better.

This sparked my interest....let's have a small competition to see who can get it highest without voltmodding :)

I will try with a normal voodoo3 with 6ns and the big card 3000 with 5.5ns

Sounds fun. I'm still looking for the systems cd drive. Oddly enough the sata card does not work with cd drives  :-?
