Probably some of you have downloaded and tested the 8Mb demo by Farbrausch (with a disco), designed for DirectX 9.
It seems that there are some problems with the compatibility of drivers from ATI (latest, on a R 9000)for this Demo. Problems: 1)Can't select FSAA from the demo's start-up menu. 2)When using FSAA, some textures are completely out of the place in which they should be. 3)Minor glitches when showing some high detail scenes. Also, on other cards, the game fails completely to start, and give a strange "Out of texture memory space" no matter what resolution/level of detail you choose (and this when you have 32Mb of texture memory, and DXTC capability as with S3 ProSavageDDR). What results were seen with a 3dfx Voodoo card, or other cards? |

works perfectly on my voodoo5 5500 8)
there the magic of voodoo rules again ;D can even start with 2xFSAA with smooth framerates.. |

Radeon 9700pro (used for the Screenshot) : no Problems, FSAA is selectable and fully functional.
(Catalyst 3.8 ) I don't have the very latest Catalyst 3.9 version though, which even received a hotfix (seems like a bit troubled release, several people reported Problems with it). Voodoo4 4500 32MB AGP : no FSAA selectable (since the AmigaMerlin 2.9 Driver isn't DX9 compatible, no surprise). Problems : - long loading times and HD activity inbetween scenes - last scene had some form of Z-Buffer error and didn't show the dancing people on the platform But otherwise, ran fine :) With your ProSavageDDR, it might be a Driver problem (I don't think there's a DX9 compatible Driver existing for it as well I guess) While I can't be sure, I believe manual (Driver-side) selected FSAA on the Voodoo4/5 takes away precious memory that would be needed as Texture Memory instead. Lacking AGP Texturing, problems can be expected, especially in higher Resolutions. Did you try the "low quality" mode ? (by all means, it's a wonder the DX9 Demo actually runs at all on those venerable old Cards with the old Driver technology in the first place ;) ) |

I have tryed the low quality mode, lowest resolution, no effect, the same texture load error, after setting the video mode. Fullscreen or windowed has no effect...
The problems with FSAA on a Radeon 9000 were reported on a WIN98 SE system, not a clue if it is a WIndows-drivers specific problems, or it is just the Radeon 9000 the problematic issue... |

Hm, I'll give it a run on a Radeon 7500 Ultra and an Integrated Radeon 7000 DDR (Notebook) then.
Not sure, but it really could be the Catalyst Drivers themself. (bare in mind though, that such 3D Demos are usually by far not Bug-Free [ Final's are usually good, Party Releases often still buggy ] , and usually aren't tested on alot of different Cards) |

Right. Catalyst drivers are still with problems even now. ATI should focus more on the drivers issues.
