Title: Unreal Tournament resolution Post by mirage111 on 03.01.14 at 00:38:40
I've noticed that I can run Unreal Tournament at resolutions up to 1280x1024 (The limit of my monitor) with my Voodoo3. Well, I allways thought that Voodoo3 maximun resolution was 800x600, in fact other games only allow me to choose up to 800x600. Maybe is a silly question, but I don't understand why UT can run at high resolutions. [smiley=undecided.gif] And it's still playable, performance only drops a bit.
Happy new year. ;) |

No, the Voodoo3 can do higher resolutions than 800x600. It's the Voodoo2 that can only do 800x600 (unless you use SLI or other tricks, then you can do 1024x768).

Ok, so what is the max 3D resolution for Voodoo3 using Glide? I thought it was 800x600 because some games, like Quake II, crashes when I try higher resolution or even doesn't let me choose it.

Quake II is too old for Voodoo3, as a result you can use 1024x768 with 2 Voodoo2 and only 800x600 with a voodoo3.
I got the same thing using my computer. |

I play Ut99 with my Voodoo3 3500 in 1024x768 with 90 FPS on a P3 1 GHz with no Vsync.
A Voodoo3 have enough power for Ut99 |

1600x1200 it's the max resolution for V3 in 3D. V3 3500 can handle UT99 in that resolution, it will be quite smooth in small maps with 1-2 bots. On larger maps and with 4-5 bots or more the frames will drop bad in fights (smoke effects will "kill" the framerate, V3 inherited that from V2, V2 also had problems with transparency). |
