@Patience is correct! ;)

You'll have to get the DOOM3 V2 1.0 patch and a Voodoo 2 card...at the very least! ::)

It simply won't work on a Voodoo 1! :P :(

Uhm, if you're in the process of buying a videocard for Doom 3 you might want to buy a newer card like a ATi Radeon 9600 128MB.

Does the rest of your system meet the minimum requirements for Doom 3?

Post by paul jones on 25.02.05 at 18:20:56
nitro where can i get that 9600 card, can i download that or is it something i need to buy? help me put here peeps im here for expert advice!

Post by gdonovan on 25.02.05 at 18:34:23
I would check that your system specs are up to running the program as the Doom3 patch is unsupported and requires a level of practical computer knowledge you may not have.

Not ment as an insult, but if your unaware what a 9600 is then chances are the Doom3 patch instructions will be difficult to follow since the they are somewhat technical in nature.

You might want to try to get a good card on eBay. But again, you need to know how it works!

ok peeps thanks for the replies again!

hi g donovan, no insult taken im not a pro, thats why im here! how do i check my system specs? can i download this or is there a page i can go to on the net? my wife uses ebay, she buys and sells stuff on there like books and videos! spends alot of bloody money, jeez and i think its dangerous. anyway ebay is possible but what are we looking for here?  what is the doom3 patch? are you peeps sure that the voodoo card play this game? doom1 and 2 work fine.

thanks again peeps.

Title: Re: paul
Post by FalconFly on 25.02.05 at 21:53:56
Okay, to make things clear :

Doom3 will not run on your Voodoo1.

In order to play it, you will have to upgrade to a more current Video Hardware at least.

To check your System specs, I recommend downloading and running a SysInfo Utility :

http://www.lavalys.com/

After having checked the System, you will have to rely on an expert for on-site upgrading anyway, likely no Forum will safely get you through all steps needed to perform these Upgrades.

Title: Re: paul
Post by LuxKiller65 on 25.02.05 at 22:04:44
I don't know you, but trying to run Doom III with a single or double Voodoo2 is the really last thing I'd do! Even more if it's somebody who doesn't use a PC 4 hours a day like me (us) and might not feel confident about tweaking and manipulating hardware. I would more go for a new or used card (eBay in that case), but again it depends on your PC configuration.

Post some screenshots of the specifications shown by this program (press the "Print" key on your keyboard and then go open Paint in start - programs -  accessories then choose Paste in the menu). That should help us see what the best solution for you would be.

hi again peeps

i think i have the info that you need, my son has done it.  we took the picture as well but decided to write it here because we cant put it on the internet as we dont have our own web page. ok so here goes.

Windows XP Home
Intel Pentium 2 400MB
128MB Ram
Voodoo Graphics 4MB

this will play doom3 or no? falcon, you think we need a new comp? or can we download anything? where can we get on site help exactly?

thanks again peeps, sorry but im a dumb crappity smack when it comes to comps!

Title: Re: paul
Post by FalconFly on 26.02.05 at 00:01:40
Well, that machine is far below specifications to run Doom3 by any means.

Time to buy a new machine, I'm afraid there's no other Solution in this case.

By on-site help I mean competent folks in your neighbourhood, that can come around if you need anything done on your machine.

Something like an AthlonXP 2600+ (or higher), a Radeon 9700 (or higher), Surround Soundcard + Speaker System and minimum 512MB RAM (768MB is better, 1GB is perfect) is roughly something to strive for when you think Doom3 and a perfect experience.

Title: Re: paul
Post by gamma742 on 26.02.05 at 07:35:42
Paul,

Your machine is fine for checking email, basic word processing and cruising on the internet but for serious gaming like Doom3, it's not going to do the job. The difference between Doom 1 & 2 to Doom 3 is the difference between night and day.

I usually try to keep people in their same box and add memory, bigger hard drive, and a faster Video card but if your looking forward to playing Doom3 I think it would be in your best interest to replace the system.

Once you see Doom3 on a 9700 or better, you'll be glad you did (upgrade that is). Gaming and Video cards have come a long way since GLDoom 1 & 2 on a 4 MB voodoo 1 card. I still have a couple of V1 cards, one I'm using on a PIII 500 for older games like Doom 1 & 2, Descent 1 & 2, Need for Speed II SE, GLQuake and Quake2

Title: Re: paul
Post by LuxKiller65 on 26.02.05 at 09:50:10
Let's say that in order to play Doom III decently, you'll have to spend at least 1300€-1500€. I hope you didn't think you'll just need some 100€, because that won't be enough, really.

:P

Or you can always buy a GameCube to play new games... Okay, I shut up.

Title: Re: paul
Post by FalconFly on 26.02.05 at 09:53:01
Depends on where he lives, I could get a decent gaming machine around here for about 900-1000 Euro.

Title: Re: paul
Post by LuxKiller65 on 26.02.05 at 10:42:50
Yes, but is it worth it for only one game? Here in Luxembourg, for PCs around 1000€, you never get more than a ATI 9200. You have to spend over 1500€ to find good cards on the config.

Title: Re: paul
Post by FalconFly on 26.02.05 at 10:55:29
Quite hefty prices.

With an AthlonXP 2800+, a Radeon 9800pro and 768MB RAM, I'm still far below 1000 Euro in Germany.
(at least something that's more or less cheap in Germany *g* )

Title: Re: paul
Post by psycho47 on 26.02.05 at 12:11:01
got my rig (athlonxp3000/r9800p/512MB Ram) for approx. 660$..plus 10$ for the second voodoo2 to have SLI  ;D
..as you wont be playing doom3 on that machine, you can check on doom legacy to play something on your voodoo1 while you try to get the money for a new machine..(remember that you must use Doom Legacy v1.32 beta 4 if you have a voodoo card, glide goesnt work in the newer versions..)

Title: Re: paul
Post by LuxKiller65 on 26.02.05 at 13:27:27
Yes prices here are quite high, but that's okay.

Anyway, why bother playing new crappy games when you can play nice old smooth sexy crispy games on a Voodoo?

;D

hello peeps

weve mamanged to get hold of another comp i know your all goin to want to know the specs so here goes again:

Widndows XP Pro
AND Athlon XP 1900+
512MB Ram
Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 128MB

is this going to be ok? my mate can probably get hold of one more pc but no more than that and i have to give him the money soon if this ones ok?

we have to appear in court tomorrow so i might not be on

thanks peeps

Title: Re: paul
Post by FalconFly on 26.02.05 at 19:09:45
Pretty minimum Spec for a 2005 style computer, and the GeForce 5200 won't run Doom3 very fast; the AthlonXP 1900+ isn't "too" bad for a start, although not stellar either.

I reckon this is a 2nd hand machine ?

The Video Card might have to be replaced with a more potent one (e.g. ATI Radeon 9800pro class) in the near future.

Anyway, if it's a really cheap buy, you could take it and upgrade the weakest components later.
If it's a "new" Retail system, something is terribly wrong, GeForce 5200 is a very low end el-cheapo solution, the XP1900+ is also quite old although still usable.

Try to get hands on something like :

AthlonXP 2500+ (higher is recommended)
ATI Radeon 9800pro

@Colin

Well, your "buddy" got his entire Access Node banned off all 3dfx Archive servers.
You're simply using a different access Node which is not affected, that's it.

As of now, 327456 IP Addresses had to be banned from all Servers.

Title: Re: paul
Post by omega_supreme on 28.02.05 at 22:42:08
I noticed CS wont runs on the newest Amigamerlin too. The cure is MesaFX. This "advanced" little masterpiece of dborca will let you run CS properly.

I will take it step by step:

first you need to download MesaFX itself. Just take the newest if you dont know what to take.

Then you will need to extract all the files to a new folder. I would advise to only use the opengl32.dll file. The rest you can throw away again.

After you extracted opengl32.dll you will need to move it to the CS folder. Assuming you are using Steam the default for this is :

D:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\username@provider.com\counter-strike\

Now you will notice that the mouse dissapears in the Steam menu when you load the game. To solve this problem open the console with (~) and type :  vgui_emulatemouse 1

Then play CS all the way  ;)

As for Quake3, it should work just fine. Try putting the opengl32 file in your Quake folder maybe it helps.

Title: Re: paul
Post by psycho47 on 28.02.05 at 23:07:35
WARNING! do NOT put the opengl32.dll file in your CS folder if you want to play online (steam),this will get you BANNED! place it in your system32 folder instead (you may need to disable file protection first).dont forget to back up the original file  ;).btw,I think you should try using wickedgl (the same way) first, wickedgl usually works better for hl1 based games (at least for me)..

hint: steam is bad for your health.

Title: Re: paul
Post by omega_supreme on 28.02.05 at 23:29:24
Well thats weird..I have never been banned and I put the opengl32 in the Steam folder.

Title: Re: paul
Post by FalconFly on 28.02.05 at 23:32:19
AFAIK this was (and still is) a Problem only with MesaFX used as a Renderer for Steam based Games.

Last thing I know is that Valve never even reacted to all EMails (from myself and others).
In fact one could think, they don't give a rats arse in that respect (didn't even have the goddarn courtesy to send an automated reply :P )

Oh, did I already mention I hate Steam?
Worse than WinXP and utterly useless for 95% of all Gamers.

Kiddie style 1337 talk is not desired or accepted in this Forum, most members are too old for this Newbie talk.

If you have any business with 3dfx please make sure you articulate yourself like an adult human being, otherwise this is not the right place.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Well I'm sure I can articulate in a 'considerably more advanced' fashion that that of yourself, little man.  I now notice that you post your petty insult after you believe that I am banned and will not read your response.  Naming your site after your ridiculous nickname obviously causes you to believe that you have reason to make posts like a pompous ass.  Just remember that there is always someone, or in your case very many people, out there alot better than you, we all have to face up to this sooner or later.

Now why not go and play with your pathetic little collection of pc's, and immerse yourself in your little world instead of condescending to me, you don't know who the Doctor is and a simple man of your ilk will never reach an accurate deduction.  I expect of course that your little mininons will also reply with their own petty insults, by your endorsement, but this is totally normal and indicative of their extremely unintelligent sheeplike behaviour.

Goodbye until, a considerably more advanced, next time.

I must say, I used to post a lot in many forums and every time a problem with a member came up, this member always ended up saying the exact same thing you say here. Things like "go back to your little kiddy amusement" or "go talk with your stupid friends". It must surely be something hidden deep in everybody's soul, since you don't seem to be more original than other incredibly more advanced people. That's why, in conclusion, the world FF and all of us will go back to isn't more little than yours, or at least as little as yours, since everybody's world is a little world. If you believe your world is bigger and more advanced than ours, than it might be something like egocentrism. And that doesn't cause me any problem, but you know, after hearing thirty times the same thing being said by people like you, it gets helplessly annoying.

Title: Re: paul

He didn't change anything nor used any of his (non-existent) "skillz".

It was just a setting I forgot to place into the right spot, that's it.

And changing IP Addresses doesn't require any skill, most Users (including this one) is on Dynamic IP that automatically changes anytime he logs on ;)
