Title: Voodoo2 Sli with T&L, now that is wierd!!! Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 31.08.04 at 16:33:07
well i was just surf'n around today and then I came across this strange thing: :-X
and yeah it's a Voodoo2 SLi card with an onboard T&L chip, I suppose this has nothing to do with the Rampage project now does it? What I do know is that Rampage was meant after Voodoo2 or is this just a wierd experiment? here is more info on it: The board called "VREngine" will be powered by one or two Voodoo 2 chipsets (onboard-SLI). RealVision added their own geometry engine "GA400". The silicon is clocked at 100 MHz and computes 9.1 Gigaflops, which results in 12 millions polygons per second. The chip features the common T&L functionality like transformation, clipping, culling, volume clipping and specular lighting (parallel, spot, point). [...] There are 16 simultanous light sources supported. The T&L chip has its own memory interface (64bit SDRAM). Unfortuantly, the limited triangle setup rate of the voodoo 2 core limits the performacne of the card to 3 million polygons per second. Therefore, RealVision manufactures cards based on NEC's PEC-Rasterizer, which offers clearly more power than the good old Voodoo 2. RealVision is able to scale the geometry performance by adding more chips (up to 8 ). They already offer a model using 2 T&L processors. found this onfo on this site which is normally well know to dutch users: http://www.tweakers.net/nieuws/11617 and over here I found more info on it's tech specs: http://www.benchmark.pl/archiwum/czerwiec3-2000.shtml go to paragraph: "poniedziałek, 19 czerwiec 2000" Voodoo2 z T&L ! VREngine/VD-1: - 1 Voodoo 2 chipset - 1 GA400 T&L chip - 3 MPoly/s triangle setup - 90 MPix/s - 180 MTex/s - 12 Mpoly/s T&L unit (2 active light sources) - supports Win95/98/NT - 1 PCI card VREngine/VD-2: - 2 Voodoo 2 chipsets - 1 GA400 T&L chip - 6 MPoly/s triangle setup (-> doubtful, V2 SLI doesn't double triangle setup rate) - 180 MPix/s - 360 MTex/s - 12 Mpoly/s T&L unit (2 active light sources) - supports Win95/98/NT - 1 PCI card VREngine/TE-1: - 1 NEC PEC chip - 1 GA400 T&L chip - 8 MPoly/s triangle setup - 64 MB memory - 200 MPix/s - 1600 GTex/s - 12 Mpoly/s T&L unit (2 active light sources) - supports WinNT4 - 1 AGP-Karte VREngine/TE-2: - 2 NEC PEC chips - 2 GA400 T&L chips - 8 MPoly/s triangle setup - 64 MB memory - 400 MPix/s - 3200 GTex/s - 24 Mpoly/s T&L unit (2 active light sources) - supports WinNT4 - 1 AGP-card + 1 PCI card I know some of you can't read it, but you could try and translate it with bablefish or altavista.com ;) Friendly Regards, Obi-Wan Kenobi. |

This card was discussed a few weeks or months ago, been looking around for one for months ;-)
I have seen a few reviews, but no cards. I wonder if they were ever released? |

oh really a few months ago hehe new seen one of these things before, well i dunno about mass production, maybe it was only meant for labotoriums and so on for research programs and yes ofcourse it would be nice to own one. Never seen a release date on one of these either since they were neen mentioned in 3Dfx's plans as far as i know it.
I wonder if Quantum3D has something to do with this strange thing. ::) |

Would have a black PCB if it did! |

The VREngine VD1 and VD2 are from RealVision.

afaik there also was RealVision Flash3d card with v1.
I bet VRengine could be pretty fast as it has T&L onboard.. RealVision VRengine manual: http://www.rvu-inc.com/pdf/vrengine_e.pdf |

Apparently this card was from an arcade machine of the same name (VREngine)... :P
Although I could be wrong? ??? Just seems to remind me of an article I read in an old computer mag... :P |

Has anyone here @ FalconFly have one of these cards?
It would be nice to see some highres photo's of it ;D unless someone has one of course ;) P.S. @ gdonovan well yeah mabe but some cards of Quantum3D are green like AAlchemy 4116 and 8164. but okay they are the newer based 3dfx cards. The older ones were indeed black 8) One thing for sure this card would of performed quite nice in 3D Mark 2000 and maybe even 2001 SE for the Voodoo2 SLi version then :) |

the voodoo2 itself is too damn limited to be bench'd by utilities like 3dmark2001se,
even 3dmark99max would bring it to it's knees ::) Anyways, it looks like that card can sure give the length of the voodoo6k a run for it's money ;D i tend to agree with paul here, it certainly looks like something that was used in an arcade system rather than a standard pc.. |
