Title: Voodoo 3 3000 and FS2002

Texture problems running FS2002 with Voodoo 3 3000 AGP and Win98 SE. The alpha channel of the DXT3 textures are not work at all.

Hm, the Voodoo3 does not support DXT3 Compressed Textures... (?)

The game probably reverts to a fallback Texture usage, which might end up looking bad.
Similar can be observed with UT2003 for example, where the DXT Textures are actually decompressed and filtered downto the Voodoo3's 256x256 Size limit...

I wonder if there would be any way to Transform DXT into FXT1 Compressed Textures in realtime, which the Voodoo3 does support...

Please help me V3 owners,
the texture S3TC/DXTC and FXT1 compressions drive me nuts. According to the "3dfx Tools - Registry Tweaks.doc" the V3 can do FXT1 (and 32Bit Z-Buffer what i don't believe to be true). According to "voodoo3_spec.pdf" it can't (don't be fooled by the Narrow Channel (NCC) compression wich are the 8Bit textures who are also working on the Voodoo1 - look by yourself in the voodoo1 specs "Voodoo1_spec.pdf"). Also in the Powerpoint Presentation for the FXT1 Texture compression is written that the FXT1 and T-Buffer were invented 1999. The Voodoo3 technology is from 1998.

I tried many drivers (1.07,1.07 beta, mikipedo,x3dfx and amigamerlin) and enhancements (koolsmok, wgl, colorless) from a 'ghosted' cleaninstall with a 'cleaned' Q3A 1.32 and none of the drivers shows "GL_3DFX_texture_compression_FXT1", "GL_S3_s3tc" or "GL_EXT_texture_compression_s3tc" under driver info.

So has anyone a short opengl demo that contains only FXT1 textures to test it and end up this discussion? Believe me, i don't want to blame anyone. If i am wrong i call myself a lamer here in this thread!

Regards,
Andreas

I think the 1.07.00 WHQL Driver hat a "Force FXT1 compression" in OpenGL (?)

But I might be wrong, haven't used a Voodoo3 as primary Card for years now, so maybe I'm wrong after all ::)

All Quake3-engine based games and many other opengl games have an "driver-info" tab in their graphic options menu. So all V3 users shoud activate "Force FXT1 compression" in the 3DFX Tools and Texture compression in the game and apply settings. Then look for the "GL_3DFX_texture_compression_FXT1" string. The only GL_3DFX extension that shows up on my system is for gamma. No sign of FXT1 or S3TC.

Regards,
Andreas

P.S.
Could it be that "Force FXT1" was included by an error? The most recent 1.07.00b from 2001 doesn't has this option.
