Title: Potential donor card for V5500 mod? Post by RaptorZX3 on 16.05.14 at 03:39:22
i think i found a donor card for those who can, or are willing to, mod their V5500 to have 128mb instead of 64mb. Though this card seem to have 32mb on it, i don't see the back of it, but i'll assume it have 2 x 16mb, and seeing the number of pins, and it's SDRAM, it might be the right type of memory, right?
well here's the card in question, a S3 Savage 2000, on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/S3-Savage-2000-VGA-Card-32-MB-AGP-/201078052427 |

it might be the correct ram, but I also see a -7 on the chips, which would indicate 133Mhz speed.....

Actually 143 MHz but yes, underclocked anyway.

funny, if a RAM chip support 147Mhz, why underclocking it?
it's funny how they underclocked the N64's CPU/GPU, it's supposed to run much faster, yet...see how slow some games can get with just a little more details shown on screen? sucks... |

Some times hardware can be downclocked to save power or extend its life span. Other times it's to keep things stable or to fix hardware incompatibilities. |
