Title: Potential donor card for V5500 mod?
Post by RaptorZX3 on 16.05.14 at 03:39:22
i think i found a donor card for those who can, or are willing to, mod their V5500 to have 128mb instead of 64mb. Though this card seem to have 32mb on it, i don't see the back of it, but i'll assume it have 2 x 16mb, and seeing the number of pins, and it's SDRAM, it might be the right type of memory, right?

well here's the card in question, a S3 Savage 2000, on Ebay:

it might be the correct ram, but I also see a -7 on the chips, which would indicate 133Mhz speed.....

Actually 143 MHz but yes, underclocked anyway.

funny, if a RAM chip support 147Mhz, why underclocking it?

it's funny how they underclocked the N64's CPU/GPU, it's supposed to run much faster, yet...see how slow some games can get with just a little more details shown on screen? sucks...

Some times hardware can be downclocked to save power or extend its life span. Other times it's to keep things stable or to fix hardware incompatibilities.
