No that was not the reason. 6000 even in the final rev were not stable, so 3dfx thought the problem was caused by the clock frequency. But even with 166MHz unstability was not wiped out. The PCI Rework which was developed too late solved that problem and makes it now possible to clock normal finals with 6ns even at frequencies as 190MHz. (the vsa's are selected ones which are predestinated to do at least 183MHz) so the memory is actually the bottleneck now. That's also why older revisions are liked.
The optimum would of course be a final revision with faster memory. |

You must be the same hiero looking for a REV 1 in the ezboard forums.
Any luck so far? |

Hi,
That's right. Normally I'm on Voodooalert but as I got a special interest in 6000 topics I also visit all other 3dfx boards. Unfortunately noone seems to sell his A1. On a picuture I saw that clay had several of these revs but I don't know who got them now. There a lot of 6000 owners which aren't active in any boards probably. On x3dfx I already stated that I can't use a final in my system as it would probably cause a latch up. But that might be different with Rev A2 / Rev A3. Has anybody tried these revs in latch up boards ? |

Can a V5 6K intel rev. also used with internal Hook Up's? Or only with external Power Supply ?

As far as I know the Intel revisions do NOT have soldering holes for the internal hook-up. So you are limited to the power brick...

hmm I do remember that some bloke in Germany had a Rev.A1 1500 with an internal hookup, I saw it once at voodooalert.de, was a long time ago though since a saw that.
I'll do must by finding that picture again, May The Force Be With Us on this one ;) Well I searched the whole voodooalert.de site and no result , then i was 3dfxzone.it |
Title: Re: A list of all Voodoo5 Prototypes.... Post by omega_supreme on 23.02.05 at 14:08:11
The Internal hookup can only be applied on A2 or higher builds. The intels have voltage regulators on the place where Hank attaches the internal wires (well sort of, I know it's not exactly the same....).
@ Obi-Wan_Kenobi: I think you meant Rolo's old connector. I remember Rolo made a connector for his four pin powerconnector. VMAN once uploaded the pinout for that connector. I may still have that image on my HDD. I could not find any picture of it since voodooalert seems to be offline since yesterday. Anyway I think Enrico got it from Rolo to use it for a 1500. Ironically nobody seemed to have the nerves to really test it :D |
