3DFX people... where are they now?
06.05.14 at 15:58:52

I was clearing out some old files off my server and came across some old 3dfx files so I thought I'd ask... Where are they now?

KoolSmoky - who was he and his is still doing anything 3dfx related?

Gary talks to Hank once in a while from the sounds of it but what is he up to lately? Are there any others that were big names back in the day that are still making contributions now or in the industry still with either Nvidia or AMD or somewhere else?

Just curious, I don't know any of them personally and only remember vague names of ones that were working on drivers afterwards or like Hank who used to pop in here once in a while and help with something but some people here seem to be in contact with people from back then still so I'm just rather curious.

Luckily, someone shared this link in a small group on Facebook so that I could come reply!

https://www.facebook.com/groups/x3dfx/   Cheesy

I don't know what the other folks are up to, I've lost touch with many of them.  But those certainly were the good old days.

Back around 2006 I let my domain name expire, but it didn't take long for me to get the urge to start another website.  I have a few other domains now, but I had always wanted NuAngel.net back.  I tried like crazy to buy it back from squatters and then was finally able to get it in an auction (for less than I had offered the squatters).  So in 2010, I started a fresh, new NuAngel.net.  Since then, I've migrated pretty much all of the data from various websites over the years onto that one site (if you look down the right hand side of the page, I have at least ONE piece of writing for every year from now all the way back to 2001).

I still host my driver archive on http://drivers.NuAngel.net (VoodooTV drivers are still there, too, since I know they can be tough to track down!).

As far as the offline world, I'm a few months from my 30th birthday, I work as the Director of IT and Security for a health clinic.  A few years ago, I nearly moved to Seattle and worked for Microsoft. More recently, I moved back home to Pennsylvania, USA from Rochester, NY, USA and have been living with my father since my mother passed away last year.

There, I think you're all caught up. Wink  I wonder what the others are to?  Let's see if anyone else crawls out of the woodwork.  And feel free to join and share that Facebook group, seems like where people may be gathering, lately!

Thank you NuAngel for taking the time to post, I appreciate all the info that's in here.

I'm glad to hear you got you site back. It's been 14 years that 3DFX got swallowed up by Nvidia but it's good to hear what people from that time are doing, at least to me.

I'm sorry to hear about your mother. It's never an easy time but as long as you remember them, both the good and the bad times, they are never truly gone. My father had a stroke 5 years ago and I have to believe that's the case as some of the things he taught me, I've tried to teach to my 12 yr old daughter and you can see it in her. That's not to say it doesn't sting once in a while but it does make it easier.

Well, I'll let you go but it was cool hearing what's going on man, good luck with the Director of IT position. That can be... interesting to say the least, especially in the health field. I'm a network admin/Desktop support lvl 4 for a small medical company and the amount of things we have to jump through to make sure everything is ok with validation for the FDA and now with EPIC coming live at our site, it's been fun...   Tongue

Take care man. I hope things continue go well for you. Smiley

Thanks!

Yeah, I started in a help desk, and then quickly bumped up to a "District Technical Consultant" for a library district (17 libraries across 5 counties in Pennsylvania).  After that I did a few years as a help desk manager and now I'm just "the guy" here.  After a few years of this, I might strike out and do a private consulting firm, we'll see how things go.

A position like this forces you to learn a lot about EPIC, HIPAA, HITECH, and FIPS.  Government acronyms everywhere!

Interesting.

I took over as director of environmental services at a healthcare facility 7-8 months ago and it has been a VERY challenging time for me. The facility was in tough shape and a lot of stuff was not up to where it should be. Has not left me much time for anything as I come home exhusted after being flat out all day.

Some light at the end of the tunnel, but something always comes up.
