Title: Voodoo 3 on widescreen?
Post by Ray Kremer on 28.12.07 at 07:02:58
My parents were so wonderful and bought me a huge-ass 22" widescreen LCD monitor for Christmas. Native resolution of 1680x1050. My fault for not wanting anything, they had to improvise.

And of course I'm still using a Voodoo 3 3000 card that I bought when it was top of the line. (I think I have some recent-ish games here that would require me to get a newer video card, but until I decide to make the time to play them it pretty much didn't matter.) At least I finally upgraded to Windows 2000 four months ago.

So, will one of those third party video drivers out there set me up with a screen image that isn't a 4:3 ratio squashed into a 16:10 ratio? I'm also rather concerned about watching a 4:3 normal ratio video at fullscreen, it needs to display with black bars on either side instead of stretching the image. I have no idea what controls that sort of thing.

Or do I need to go to Best Buy tomorrow and get a video card that's been released in the past year? Man. I have a feeling this is going to be an expensive gift. Not that I can't afford it. I was completely happy with that rickety old CRT monitor though. And I don't really even notice the distortion unless I open up MS Paint and draw a circle. But like, it's the principle of the thing.

its doable.you dont need a special driver, you need to add your custom resolution to the ini and reinstall the driver,or you can create it via powerstrips advanced timing options.see here:

My circles are round again!

And I threw a video into fullscreen and it was the proper ratio with the black bars and I didn't even have to do anything extra!

Truly the internet is a wonderful place. I'm so happy I may even actually pay for this shareware.

Thank you so much for your help, ps47.
