That's true. And, to me at least, great computer games are like great novels. I'll go back to replay the best ones time after time. And only the best
stay on my system to be dabbled with regularly.
I installed a GeForce2 GTS in the middle of 2000. I had my Voodoo2s both before and after. Here's the current list of games installed on my machine and the card's I run them on-
Obsidian2 X-24 Voodoo2 SLI: Total 14 titles
Half-Life
Half-Life Blue Shift
Half-Life Opposing Force
System Shock 2
Shadow Warrior
Quake
Quake II
Carmageddon
Carmageddon Splat Pack
Carmageddon 2
Grand Theft Auto
Grand Theft Auto London 1961/1969
Grand Theft Auto 2
Kingpin
Creative Labs GeForce2 GTS: Total 11 titles
System Shock
Dark Forces
Duke Nukem 3D
Wolfenstein 3D
Doom (1, 2, Ultimate & Final)
Colin McRae Rally
Flight Unlimited
Postal
Road Rash
Carmageddon 3
Grand Theft Auto 3
Sure, some of these are a series of games. If you count separate titles it would push the Voodoo2s off top place. But then, a lot of the titles that the GeForce runs it does by default because they're VGA or VESA mode games. Additionally a lot of people might run some of the titles I run on the Voodoo2s on the GeForce (perhaps Half-Life, Quake II or System Shock 2). But I honestly
prefer the appearance and performance of these games when they're running on the kind of hardware they were written for! Arguably the only title that needs the GeForce's performance and more modern features is Grand Theft Auto 3!
My point is that, if you want to run some classic games at their best
in the future you're going to need some classic hardware.
