Title: Problems with old Athlon system
Post by whodovoodoo2man on 31.03.05 at 15:56:08
Hi,

I was given a couple of old machines a while back.

One was an old Compaq pentium 4 1.4GHz machine, and is working fine.

the other was an old Athlon 1.4 Thunderbird system based on a Abit KT7 mobo.

Both needed HD's, as the chap who gave them to me had culled them for his new machine.

The Athlon posted up okay, but everytime I have tried to load in the OS (Win 2000) it goes through the initial stage of load up, reboots and then refuses to go any further.

I think this is mobo problem, as the HD is new.

Any clues, or things I can try. I know it's an old system, but I just wanted to rig something for use at work,as those machines have been seriously nobbled by the IT department.

Andy

Quote:
This will result an AMD Athlon running at 1050MHz. The lower clock frequencies of your motherboard, ram and CPU won't stress the system as much as normal.
Don't forget to underclock your internal RAM too !

Good advice, I was going to say "try swapping out the ram first".

A mate of mine had a similar problem with an EPIA mainboard and a brand new Samsung HDD. ::)

Turns out that the mainboard was incompatible with the HDD (the HDD worked fine in another PC) :P

So we just used a different HDD with the mainboard! ;D
