Judging by the chip date (Feb-1998) a late Voodoo Graphics card.

tm30 We already confirmed it as an VERY RARE voodoo2.
Because the TMU and the FBi wherer called: BRUCE (BE) and CHUCK (CK). Do you finally have it now Tm30? You are very lucky with this card, I have never seen something like this. |

Hey now that you mention it those are not Voodoo Graphics chip numbers.. But who the heck would make a Voodoo II with 1 TMU? Is there ram chips on the back?
|
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by TM30 on 18.10.04 at 09:18:02
hehe yeah it cannot be a voodoo graphics, i discussed in voodooalert.de already... it has 100Mhz Ram!
the card is still in delivery. when i get it i will tell you more! i just want a confirmation here... gdonovan do you know something about that budget voodoo 2 ? i googled but found nothing! someone in voodooalert.de said, that the golden/yellow "pins" (do not know the right word in english) on that board indicates, that this is a prototype... is this true ? never saw a board with yellow stuff on it... |

1) I have seen Q3D V1 cards with 75, 83 and 100 mhz ram 2) Never heard of a budget V2 aside from the 83 mhz Creative CE 3) Not sure it is prototype- If it was it would not have "CE" on it. 4) Interesting- The chip numbers fall between Rush and Voodoo II but it's clearly a V2 with one TMU. Either way looks like you have one heck of a catch there! My money is on it being some sort of development kit board, the CE marking indicates something for retail sale though! |

If you do you really need to contact me. And I mean ex 3dfx employees that have worked on the Voodoo2. I am working on a big project.

No information. |
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by TM30 on 26.10.04 at 15:20:40
someone in 3dfxzone.it said it must be a prototype because of the early manufacturing date (week 6 in 1998 )
|
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by TM30 on 02.11.04 at 18:32:43
i got it today!!!
-90Mhz speed (Ram is 100Mhz labeled) -only one TMU (instead of 2) -only 4MB RAM (2MB Frame Buffer Memory + 2MB Texture Memory) -Windows recognizes it as a normal voodoo 2 -3DMark2001 runs only in 640x480, exactly 1000 Points :) |
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by TM30 on 03.11.04 at 15:43:58
could be "DCI" the brand of the card? (located on the back of the card besides the VGA connector)
I did not found any information on google... |
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by gdonovan on 03.11.04 at 16:13:10
DCI is just the board plant or sub-contractor
|
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by TM30 on 11.11.04 at 20:13:15
okay, in x3dfx Forum one said, it is a kind of a never built Voodoo Graphics 2 .... looks possible to me!
|
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by jblue on 03.04.05 at 21:53:46
It a Voodoo2
|
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by Chosen_One on 04.04.05 at 18:45:45
if you read the thread carefully you come to the conclusion that this card cannot be a normal Voodoo2....
i have the same opinion like tm30...a never released voodoo graphics 2 protoype...i guess there is no other possibility which descripes this card better than a voodoo graphics 2 prototype... |
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by paulpsomiadis on 04.04.05 at 19:08:30
I speculate that we can name the prototype "Voodoo 2 Value Edition", since it's only HALF a V2... ;)
...opinions anyone? ??? |
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by NitroX infinity on 04.04.05 at 19:45:06
I don't think the design is all that strange. The Voodoo Graphics had such a layout and what better way to test a new chip with an already proven layout?

Title: Re: What's this??? Post by Eye-Q on 04.04.05 at 21:46:15 wrote on 04.04.05 at 19:45:06:
Show me one Voodoo Graphics with this layout of the RAM-chips. ;) At most Voodoo Graphics the RAM is located in two rows to the right hand of the two 3dfx-chips. Although I've seen some different layouts of Voodoo Graphics (Skywell, VillageTronic, miro/canopus) I never saw this layout with RAM-chips above and below the RAMDAC. As stated by TM30 himself: the card is recognized as a Voodoo 2 but with only one TMU, the inscriptions on the chips (CK=chuck, BE=bruce) indicate that, too. |
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by TM30 on 05.04.05 at 18:33:13
Full ACK @ Eye-Q ;D
this is definatly not a Voodoo Graphics, we said it many times before... or do you ever have seen someone running 3dmark 2001 with a voodoo graphics? or a voodoo graphics with "bruce" and "chuck" chipset??? someone said alredy that it was mentioned once in a magazine, but noone knows where ("budget voodoo 2" or "voodoo graphics 2") |
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by NitroX infinity on 05.04.05 at 18:39:41
I never said it _is_ a Voodoo Graphics. I said it _looks like_ a Voodoo Graphics.
|
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by TM30 on 05.04.05 at 21:07:08
not really... ;)
|
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by OutOfRange on 05.04.05 at 21:35:09
sry but why are you talking for nothing about what a card is or looks like when they is defintely based on voodoo 2 ???
|
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by jblue on 06.04.05 at 17:11:00 wrote on 04.04.05 at 18:45:45:
Not a normal voodoo2 but still a voodoo2 |
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by TM30 on 06.04.05 at 21:25:52
not really... a voodoo 2 has 2 TMU....
i think Voodoo Graphics 2 is the right one... |
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by gdonovan on 06.04.05 at 21:36:26
A Voodoo 2 is a Voodoo 2- The spec if anyone took the time to read the documents the V2 spec supports from one up to three TMU's per PFI unit.
|
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by OutOfRange on 06.04.05 at 21:52:22
the card is based on a voodoo 2 chipset, short an simple.
it's not a normal v2 but it's a v2 |
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by TM30 on 06.04.05 at 21:58:39
yeah its unique ;D :D
|
Title: Re: What's this??? Post by paulpsomiadis on 07.04.05 at 01:15:06
