what about that black cardboard or black coloured paper , which you could get at a crafting shop?

they use that paper at schools for crafting art and so on it should be available in many colours too like red, blue, green, orange , yellow pink, purple , brown and even grey as black

should be great for the black background you need, you could also use Matt Black Humbrol paint , very good coating model paint
