well I also like the ole stuff hehe Descent 1 & 2 were actually games mage for the S3 Virge chip ;) the 3dfx patch was later added, only when using the 3dfx patch the cockpits where removed :( or is there a way of getting the cockpits back in 3dfx mode also?

Turok 2 - Seeds of evil

Title: Re: what is your favorite 3dfx game ever made?
Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 09.12.05 at 15:18:30
hehe that sounds like good fun also 8) isn't there a Turok 3 and 4 also?

Title: Re: what is your favorite 3dfx game ever made?
Post by omega_supreme on 09.12.05 at 15:34:12
Yes, but none of them are as good as the second one.
Turok 3 was never released on the PC and Evolution
(number 4) has no glide support anymore.

I dont think there will ever be a game like Turok 2 again
that I will like so much. Its the game that started this
3dfx stuff for me. :)

Yeah I have, its very challenging though  ;)

Undying is a really great game to play at night with the lights off and the sound cranked, it can really scare the sh!t out of ya.

Here's a good review:

Being the 3dfx fanatic that I am, all those unreal tournament engine games are must have's for my collection   ;D

Rune is also another pretty good (hack-n-slash) unreal tournament engine game

Here's a site with some good undying screenshots, looks like they were taken in crappy d3d in low res though (I use 1024 x 768, 2x FSAA in glide and get a nice 45 - 60 fps) :

@ Gamma742

What About Descent IV : Invasion, will that ever be made again? I really would hope so, Descent was the first game I bought hehe now with all Descent series complete I just hope for a part4, though PyroMania is great fun, here you can download Pyromania 1.5:
http://rdo.unirep.ru/downloads/pyromania15g.exe

with that great mod you can fly the Descent4 based version of the Descent2 PyroGX and all weapons from Descent2 can be used even the Original Omega Cannon and Helix Cannon!!!

GTA2 in pure-IP LAN environment. Must be played with Voodoo 2's in SLI mode on Windows 98 SE with Shutdown patches installed for ultimate performance.

Title: Re: what is your favorite 3dfx game ever made?
Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 11.12.05 at 05:02:51
GTA2 must be played with @ least Voodoo4 4500 AGP VSA-100 all the way :) and for better graphics effects Voodoo5 5000 / 5500 AGP/PCI with FSAA x4 and  Voodoo5 6000 AGP with FSAA x8 for the ultimate 3dfx Glide experience! 8) anyways I still prefer Descent 1 through 3 hehe, everyone has thier own preferance to what they play ofcourse ;)

LOL, a Voodoo5 6000 AGP for GTA2, man, you need brain surgery Obi-wan!

Is that why it ran flawlessly on my Pentium 133MHz box with Voodoo2 in SLIż Although I have to admit, I never paid for GTA2, I think it was a warez version.

Title: Re: what is your favorite 3dfx game ever made?

well anyways the V56K will run anything that is glide based, and if the program doesn't support quad chip SLI I can always use Single chip mode for really old aps ;)

We Jedi Don't need brain surgery The Force is our way of doing.

It's do or do not, there is no try.

a remake would be amazing iin Unreal 3.0 graphics :P heh what a dream :)

I wonder in Unreal Engine 3.0 will be possible on our Napalm cards, sure hope so :) UT 2K4 does it quite well.

My favourite 3dfx game would definnitely be StarWars Racer just the amount of speed in that game gives me pure adrennaline!

My pod is mostly that of Neva' Kee, my fastest speed record was 1287 mph with afterburners :P and that is damn fast for the Neva Kee Pod, and the fastest overall speed was with the Pod of Ben Quadinaros, max Afterburner speed was 1542 mph :) that was rather Hels crashed into a wall at that speed the effect was : 1380 , 1472 1501 1542 KABAM!! 0 mph hahaha and you could hear the pilot screem arrgghh haha .

I did this on the Old K6-2 500 @ 550Mhz with the Velocity 200 AGP :D, never had so much fun in quite a while :)
here a pic of StarWars Racer after I just won a race with the Neva Kee Pod:

It seems that you are right. Everywhere I look on the internet is said that the MM6 is software-only. But it *does* run in glide enviroment on my computer. I can tell that by the refresh-rates that are configured in glide control panel, separately from radeon CC. Also if Voodoo2's are removed, the picture becomes crappy and almost without clear textures. The main screen is not clear any more and the graphic just isn't as it is with Voodoo. I could make some screensshots next week, with/without voodoo...that could give us some insight on the subject.

My favorite Games i played on Voodoos, from the v1 to the v5-6000, in no particular order:

1.) Unreal, Glide
2.) UT99, Glide
3.) Schleichfahrt (Archimedean Dynasty), patched for Glide
4.) I-War, patched for Glide
5.) GLQuake, OpenGL MCD
6.) Descent I & II, patched for Glide (didn't like D3 that much anymore, though I have all three retail)
8.) Extreme Assault, patched for Glide
9.) Diablo II LOD, Glide, which runs great using 6000's 8xFSAA.
10.) Need for Speed II Special Edition, Glide

True, but I find MM7 a bit more interesting and better. But there is one thing I hate in both games (which is "repaired" in MM8/9). That's blasters and "ancients". I hate that modern "ancient" stuff...  >:(

FS 2000 was great on the Voodoo5 6000 also :) fly's aB744 with that card was a great combination  a B744[ Boeinig 747-430] has 4 engines so does the Voodoo 5 6000  8)

@ 1024 x 768 x 16 in Glide with FSAA x4 and max settings for FS 2K the game ran like hell on the 6K under Win2K Pro + SP4 and AM 3.1 R11.

too bad I don't have FS 2K now would of been great for the 5500 PCI as well with FSAA x2 for same reso & settings.

Yay! Another NFS2SE fan. There are some awesome old classics. NFS2SE in 3dfx handles a lot better than in software. I just beat Deus Ex, and from the screen shots on my Voodoo 3 3000 agp, the game doesn't look any different than Direct X when using Glide/3dfx.

I bet if Glide was used for Wolfeinstein3D, that would be a killr app, which I played 16 years ago, and I have on my computer (dl'd XP compaible version). Nothing wrong with old games, they are pioneers. Plus, even thou I'm 26 Im still a sonic the hedgehog fan, always have since 1991 (thou that's not 3dfx).

NfS Porsche really runs smooth with a good configuration @max. AA/AF.

heh only 3dfx cards don't do AF ::) unless you have  a Rampage ;D

they do LOD Biasing for extra or lesser details :)
But yeah StarWars Episode I Racer Rocks big time just the speed and adrennelin the game has in it's self amazing on the Voodoo 5 5000/5500's/MAC5500's with FSAA x4 and outrageous on a Voodoo 5 6000 with FSAA x8 hehe :)

Unreal Return To Pali is very good I must say, it's very big too for a mission pack! I wonder if there was a second mission pack planned or even made for Unreal?

Return To na Pali on the 3dfx Voodoo 5 6000 AGP 128MB Rev.A 3700 with FSAA x8 @ 1024 x 768 x16 in 3dfx Glide API:

2: Unreal Tournament (still like the original better then any other version)
3: Carmageddon 2
4: Diablo 2. LOD :)
5: some other games, can't think of the names just now.

This is SAD! not one of you ever played OUTLAWS??????
To me that game tho cartoonish runs fastest of all with he glide engine.we play daily in warzone to this date and i run the V5 on it peaking out at 700fps and still lookes better than D3D on anyother card that ive run.Ill try and post some pics .... oh and ive played UT /Forsaken/quake/ on it and  i love it but no comparison to Outlaws(by lucasarts)which the story in singleplayer is one hell of a story.

StarWars: Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight is my big favourite heh as a Jedi master that game was made for Jedi's as padawans the story it's self is damn good, it runs like a dream on the VSA-100 series cards.

I ran it on the Voodoo 5 6000 AGP 128MB @ 1024 x 768 x16 in Mini GL with FSAA x8 LOD Bias @ -8 @ 47 fps avr perfect gameplay the minimum fps was about 33fps so it ran very well.

That game was also my gift for my birthday, heh just the week it got released I obtained it heh played it on my 5500 AGP back then @ 1024 x 768 x16 FSAA x4 LOD Bias @ -8 actually same settings as the 6000 setup only the FSAA factor @ x4 setting because of the 2 VSA100's it had lesser hehe.

And games like Descent2 with Glide patch as Descent3 remain extremely fun to do, StarWars XWing Alliance is also a good one for Voodoo5 people.

StarWars Racer shines on Voodoo4 as Voodoo5 cards even a Rampage would shine in this game with the FSAA x4 setting :)

Outlaws is kinda cartoonish also a reason I never liked it, bad graphics imho and 700 fps in that game on a 5500 yeah right heh what reso did you run it ? I'd like to see screenshots of that with FRAPS running ;)

700fps sounds kinda exaggerating ::)

its the truth hehe go to warzone for yourself and play it on the voodoo and you will see .....but yes ill post for ya since it sounds inconcievable to you : )........oh and as a matter of Fact the Dark forces engine was the backbone to Outlaws .....darrel Stinnet was the creator of the game and others when he was with LucasArts

warzone? sorry never heard of that lol, this is a die hard 3dfx place not a warzone ::)
We all stick to the term "Seeing is Believing" this term comes from the Diamond Multimedia Monster 3D II boxes and it really comes to it's meanings

Well I had about Dark Forces II not DarkForces 1 ;) The DarkForces II engine is based on the QuakeGL engine

Dark Forces engine was a total new thing when it hit the road, iokay it was older but the game it's self was alot better.

There was even a OpenGL mod for it gotta find that someday heh. Anyways I din't have Outlaws here because it didn't have the StarWars feeling so I didn't bother a go at it lol.

I can see how any card would easily get over 300fps with that game.

It has no real ingame movement, except for the hand that is moved, but never moves in itself, it's more a slideshow idea thing game if ya ask me.

A voodoo 2 would get over 100fps with that game I think. :)

I have to agree with Ultima 300fps easilly but 700 ::)

the graphics don't look as good as other games I have seen but it might be fun heh.

Looks like a country Western game , RedNeck Rampage was so cool haha there even was good music from Creedance Clearwater Revival on the whole CD, a whole album actually! very good rock band of the 1970's!

There was also Redneck Rampage Rides Again dunno if they put Creedance Clearwater Revival music on that CD I hope so I like that band the lyrics are funny at times and it drives the game as well.

Well if your a fan of spaghetti westerns and Ennio Morricone's classic music of those movies.... the composer(Clint Bajakian)for this game was highly recognized and made one of lucasarts most popular soundtracks.<<<<(what drew me the game). there are map makers still who have made that cartoonish look go away and make some cool looking maps we play when we all hook up.Remember I said "Cartoonish" myself about it in the original post and its graphics engine are way outdated but the joy of playing this game is still there. And what more a better way than running on Glide and on a Voodoo hehe ..Rick

I'm not a fanboy of westerns it's that RedNeck Rampage was a funny game to do, nothing beats StarWars DarkForces + Jedi Knight series imho ;)

Therefore I am a Jedi Master afterall a Jedi Master prefer's a Lightsaber and the Force as their weapons of choice ;) we don't need guns lol ::)

And to think that Outlaws is really a "2D" type game, 3dfx support was kinda impressive.

yeah true there only the buildings were 3D the rest was plain 3D hehe Dark ForcesII: Jedi Knight did give the 3D feeling a much better idea heh thanx to the QuakeGL engine ;D

Remember QuakeGL Gary man that was godlike when that came for Quake it gave Quake so much more life in it the same feeling I had for Dark ForcesII: Jedi Knight.

i used win 98 se the latest stock 3dfx drivers and i think i tried the mesa`s aswell

the 3dfx patches only got to the alpha stage

used the arjan 3dfx bat file which clears up the gamma problems , his readme states :

`The batch file will work with voodoografics and with voodoo2 boards.
There still is a bug with the voodoo2 board, you may get an error
wich says that it ran out of texture memory for the current textures.
Hmmm, but it's stil fun to play, just save often and restart the game.
You may try to run it with a voodoo3 board, maybe it will work too!.
I hope you enjoy it. '

think i tried it a while back on a v3 with amigamerlin drivers can`t remember if it crashed or not .

have to try some other drivers

voodoo graphics run well but some slight corruption

a bit of a funny one running out of texture mem on a sli rig ????? for a voodoo 1 game !!!

have to give shadow warrior a go
same engine

hmmm that old site billsworkshop banshee page

`Shadow Warrior - 3Dfx version - works fine for some '

http://www.billsworkshop.com/banshee/banshee_game.html

must depend on the banshee model ?????

maybe same with blood

tried a Raven , should of tried a few different models on blood

waste of time !

Shadow Warrior - 3Dfx version  Alpha as well
supposedly blurry and crashy probably voodoo graphics only too

Title: Re: what is your favorite 3dfx game ever made?

Shadow Warrior with 3Dfx patch is just ugly. The textures will have bi/tri-lineair filtering and will look 'blurry'. Since the textures are designed for software rendering they look quite good using the good old pixels. Using the 3Dfx patch will only decrease image quality in my opinion. Especially in games like Doom and Shadow Warrior the models of the enemies look bad and blurred.

3D effects are cool but use them the right way :). In games like Unreal, Tomb Raider II and Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight (as shown a few replies above) the effects are a lot better.

L.E. :
Did anyone know about the rising of a new Carmageddon game ?

Reincarnation

You can find some pre-alpha footage here.
In my opinion, nothing can be more original than a game with new generation graphics and plain-old sound effects.
