There it is, "Vertigo Series" 4th pic from the bottom included in "The Definitive Collection"

I've never seen the Venture Pack. Is it and add-on for Descent 1 or 3? I need to look for that one. It's the only one I'm missing ;)

great collection  :D
the lego model is also very nice  :)

hehe funny idea to copy some voodoo cards with LEGO, we can make a quiz show "What's this Lego card in real ?"

Post by LuxKiller65 on 26.01.05 at 20:46:45
I got plenty and plenty of Lego's pieces, and they're all nice packed up upstairs...

;D

Could try to copy some cards... I'll see what I can do with the pieces I have!

Okay, since it's my first real occasion to contribute to the 3dfx community, I'll soon start my first experiment which is called:

[glb]Legofx: When 3D and plastic come together[/glb]

I'll begin trying to replicate a standard Voodoo card, maybe the V4 or V5.

Title: Re: The Great Descent topic :)
Post by gamma742 on 27.01.05 at 19:47:54
I was having trouble running Descent2 on my V3. Everytime I went into the automap "Tab" and returned to the game the textures were all mess up. Did any of you find a fix for that? All I found was that the D2Voodoo patch only supports the V1 and V2 cards. I also tried the other unsupported patch little better graphics but the same problem. V5 same problem :'(

Title: Re: The Great Descent topic :)
Post by paulpsomiadis on 27.01.05 at 20:03:22
Hmm if the problem is universal for different cards, either... :P

1) Your drivers are corrupted and you need to do a clean install, or... :P

2) Theres something "not right" with the system itself...(RAM, Mainboard, etc...) :P

Anyone heard of @Gamma742's problem? ???

What does this have to do with Descent,  anyway I prefer ontopic please.

Here a nice 3D model of the Pyro GX from Descent1 +2 :)

Obi-Wan_Kenobi

You make any levels with the Mission Builder?

I made a few.

In the mission builder contest, I won "Descent to Undermountain" Didn't care much for that game but was thrilled to have won something in the contest ;D

No I never done that really, I'm still stunned on what the game still is, the story in is also very good, imho :)

I got the Vertigo ones know too, I downloaded them from an opensource site, since that the Descent 1 & 2 engine are now opensurce, it was free to download :) So now my Descent Collection is alittle more complete.

Now I finally know what the Vertigo missions was about, when Matarial Defender Mil1032 had his acident with is hyper drive, Dravis said that contact with him was impossible to his new employee, well I'm in level 6 now , and I wonder if this new employee will try and contact help to find Matreial Defender Mil 1032 :)

There are even great novels on the Descent story, I hope that one there will be a movie of this great saga. I wonder what the story line of Descent IV Invasion would of been, so sad that it was canceled  :'(

here some pics of Descent IV Invasion that I found:

The Blue Key:

The Yellow Key:

The Red Key:

The Full Map bonus card:

The PyroSX MK II:

and the most beautifull PyroGX I've ever seen, yes it was planned for use in Descent IV Invasion, the god ol heavy Attack craft, the PyroGX MK4:

and here the Afterburner view:

I use that PyroGX in Descent 3 now :) even with the Descent2 weapon mod :)

I mean Descent IV Invasion would have been the perfect game to come next, here it's features  ::)

*  Development Engine
         o Crystal Space
         o DIVE level editor a.k.a. D4Edit
         o Descent 3 -> Descent IV level converter
         o Supports extreme MOD-ability
               + D4Edit:  The Ultra all-in-wonder tool for changing and editing ANYTHING for use in "D4."
               + Support for more genres. In "D4," you'll have the capability to make a racing game, etc.

* Gameplay Modes
         o Single Player
               + Storyline is in two major divisions. Early on it covers a few events directly after D3 but only for the first few levels. Afterwards it focuses on the main game that takes place two years later.
               + 30+ Levels
               + Robots from Descent I, II, and 3
         o Multiplayer
               + Anarchy
               + Assault
               + Capture and Hold
               + Capture The Flag
               + Cooperative
               + Defend and Destroy
               + Domination
               + Hyper-Anarchy
               + InstaReap
               + Monsterball
         o Aims to have gameplay similar to Descent I and II

* Weapons
         o All of the weapons from Descent I, II, and 3 except the Blackshark and EMD. Super lasers will be like D2's.
         o Possible new weapons
               + Phase Missiles - fancy homing class weapon that conceptually can fade in and out of existence, allowing it to fly through doors, windows, and thin walls. In a thick wall, it would fade into reality inside the wall and explode. If we get geomodding working right, it could even blow a wall out.
               + Beam Rifle
               + Havoc rockets
               + EMP Cannon
               + Pin Gun
         o Only certain weapons will be usable by each ship
         o Special weapon load-outs for each ship. Over 30 weapons in the game, but a maximum of 20 on any ship. (10 primary, 10 secondary + countermeasures)

* Powerups
         o Red, blue, and yellow keys
         o Ammo rack
         o Full map

* Countermeasures
         o No bouncing betties.

* Ships
         o Pyro GX (another render), Pyro SE, Pyro NX, Gravix, Tigg-SB and Aggressor Prime

* Platforms
         o Windows
         o Mac
         o Linux
         o Possibly OpenBSD
               + Other *.nix flavors

* Video Compatibility
         o No Glide support due to two reasons:
               + The engine is too advanced for Glide. The game's FPS would die on a Voodoo
               + The engine no longer supports Glide so the design team would have to code it in from scratch

* Release Method
         o Combined single-player and multiplayer demo will be released for a possible public BETA

* Miscellaneous
         o Cut scenes and movies will be high quality and can span up to 1600x600 @ 32 bit color if needed.
         o New soundtracks by Audiocat, Spydre and Copperhand
         o Sound effects by Agent4054 and Narfig
         o Ships will have both shield and armor
         o Possibility of changing ships in-game. Such as jumping out of your ship and walking or using a jetpack to go to the nearest hangar (with a different ship)
         o Not just mines, outer-space is a planned possibility

I mean why cancel something so well setup, really that troubled me for eons. :-/

And here's a great site http://www.planetdescent.com/descent32/
they are gonna reprogram Descent 1 +2 with new realtime graphics for OpenGL and D3D :) pitty that there's no Glide section added , oh well it sounds pretty nice for so far:

TO-DO LIST
--------------

Here are the things that we will be working on:

   -Cleaning up the source code and making it more easily modifiable

   -Getting rid of DOS specific code

   -Making the code fully DirectX compatible (sounds, networking)

   -Implementing a full 3D accelarated renderer (both D3D and OGL)

   -Creating brand new effects (fog, particles, etc.)

   -Improving the game media

If you want to check out my Level go here http://www.planetdescent.com/site/files/d2/missions/ it's called Slagel2.zip so you'll find it under "S"  ::)

It's been a long time since I played it, I don't remember if I put a Mission Briefing in this one or not. I did make it Co-op and Single player. Be careful when you attempt to rescue Captian Tuffly...

Oh here lemme just paste a copy of the read me txt file for the mission...

This level is part of the Descent I and II Mission Builder Contest.

Oh a tip on Slagel2.

If you get trapped in a force field grabbing the Plasma Cannon, the trick is "Decend" into the false floor then "ascend" and that will deactivate the force field.

Good Luck Material Defender...

Dravis out.

well That deserves an Editors choice award really the way you created the storyline it's self;) you deserve more than just by winning a game, anyway what's Descent to Undermountain about and do you think a Descent IV will ever come our way?

Thanks Obi-Wan_Kenobi

It does take quite alot of time and effort to build a level that's for sure. I think I had about 45 hours into this one. I was under the gun to complete it as the contest had a deadline. I fired it up this morning, Wow as soon as you open the door your under fire. You need to circle around the mountain (Mt. Slagel II) and clear the room. Don't grab the Plasma Cannon yet. Clear the room first. As I told you before, the Plasma Cannon is a well baited trap. Many have tired and died there. After the room is clear them pick up the Plasma Cannon. Remember, enter the false floor to de-activate the force field. Then if you like, release your Guide-Bot as he will assist you on your mission. Now it's time to Descend (Descent) into the volcano (Mt. Slagel II is actually an active volcano). Notice that the "Exit" is located just above the mouth of the volcano. I wouldn't wait for the Guide-Bot to show you the way out. When it's time to leave, Robot generators will activate and the Guide-Bot sort of takes his/her time. I like to have Lasers Blasting and Afterburners Lit on the way out.

It's a great level. I think you'll enjoy it. No mission breifing on this due to contest time constraints. Just unzip it the download into the "Missions" directory of Descent2 and Prepare for Descent!!

Descent to Undermountain had nothing to do with the Descent Series. It's an RPG that runs on the Descent engine. Here's a link if your interested...

Well finishing your Month Slagel II lever was rather the impossible insane thing to comply. hehe No wonder with about like 12 big boss bots in your end part  :-/

Too many big boss bots if you ask me for single player mode, I rather play your level in Co-Op mode, more fun while dying with my friends instead of dying alone. ;D

Truly was designed for Co-op action. Alone I would stay just out of range and pound the heck out of them.

But if you think that was hard, you should try                  !ANARCHY! vs. Pyro GX

It was created by my buddy Stryker. I can actually beat it in easy mode there are a few well deserved Green extra-life Orbs. I die about 3 or 4 times alone but no mission failed!!

If you want to check that one out you'll fine it in the 0-9 section. The enemies are Pyro GXs and there are equally as tough as you. Plasma & Phoenix work best.

Good Luck MD 1032

Hmm I mis the the best allround weapon :

The Helix Cannon

more nice stuuf can be found here:

The Phoenix:

It's nice, most effective at close range, but there better be an energy station near by as it will drain you fast. If the mine walls were destructable like in Red Faction, you could use it to bore an escape route ;D

I use the Helix mostly for fragging huge bot collonies in large spacey area's and most commonly for Boss Bots, the Boss Bots are normally slow and the Helix create i nice big spread effect and surely you'll always take some smaller bot's with your blast ;) The Spreadfire is a cannon I normally use in small corrowways,  and the phoenix is good for corner shooting :)

I was looking at 3dfx listings on eBay and ran across this one. "Descent3 Sol Ascent" I don't own this one I think it's "Bundled" software. Maybe it came with this game pad donno. I'm thinking about picking it up. I do have a copy or two of Descent2 Destination Quartzone which was bundleware, ended on level 8 I believe. That's better than the shareware, only 3 levels. Just something for the Descent collection.

What did you think of the briefing? It's pretty difficult to add those in and get them to function correctly. I only created around 10. Once I got on-line I didn't have time for mission building anymore. That was long ago...
