Title: veoh,ips,proxies..and stuff Post by ps47 on 12.10.08 at 19:37:58
this thing has been annoying me for while so I'll just drop it here, maybe someone will be able to help :)
as you may,or may not know, veoh has decided to block half the world (all small, backwater or other apparently uninteresting countries) from using their sevice some time ago,and unfortunatelly,I happen to be in one of those blocked countries (despite living in central europe in a not-really-that-small EU-member country.to be honest,I'm pretty insulted that I got the 3rd world whatever handling >:().I can acces veoh from my workplace (we are using german proxies),but I'm pretty much screwed when I'm at home..afaik,veoh uses some sort of ip check, and if you are from the banned countries,it won't let you in,so I have figured out that I need some sort of tool that would mask my ip,but I'm pretty much clueless at this point..tried vidalia, but didn't like it too much, quite intrusive and slow.. so,if somebody knows a way around this,I'm all ears.. |

what browser do you use? I think Firefox 3 has some obfusification or anonymous websurfing ADD-ONS.

I haven't really tried anything, this was meant more like hey-maybe-someone-will-know-right-out-of-the-box type of question.I'll have a look at ff3+addons,thanks..

Hm, if they take such steps it's likely due to broadcast licensing issues (several similar services have to do this to adhere to their contracts).
What about those P2P-Broadcast services, I recently got accross some Info about those rising up fast. Not sure how fast those are and what their content is, but it might be worth a shot. |

I doubt that.official statement is "not enough users exist in these countries".no idea for what..
browser based streaming site is perfect for my needs, easy to browse/find stuff,no need for software other than the browser itself, fast loading times-p2p based services usually require install of some software, and I don't really like that..but I may have a look eventually. |

hmmph,I'm giving up on this.there are ways around the block but they are way too impractical for daily use..found out that there is a way to access veoh site in "read only" mode (everything works, but videos don't play),that means I can use veoh to look for newly released stuff and as soon as its online I'll just torrent it.
good enough. |
