Title: amigamerlin 3.0 + jedi knight 1 problem Post by joda on 23.04.04 at 15:23:37
hi,
there is no mousecursor in the menu of jedi knight 1, so it's very hard to configure the game. (amigamerlin 3.0 and xp) any solutions? |

Look in the config file, enable software mouse. everything should work fine now.

Yes, DenisF is right. I had this problem with DF2:Jedi Knight and JK:Mysteries of the Sith, back in the days whn I had the Voodoo2's running it. ;D
It is a hardware problem with the mouse settings. If you have the hardware mouse on, but you can't see the pointer, trying moving the mouse around and you will hear the clicking and highlighting of the menu buttons on the game splash screen. This proves the mouse is there, you just can't see it. I remember when I used to have this problem and had to "guess" where the mouse was by slowly moving it over buttons to estimate where it's location was! Could be a real pain in the arse sometimes! ;) |

sounds logical... but there is no config file in the jedi knight directory. there is the directory "player" with 2 files, only one of them could be opened. this one looks like a config file, but there is no "software/hardware mouse" line (sorry for my english ::) ) |

The best thing to do first would be to turn off the Direct3D Hardware Acceleration in the game. It's a small checkbox in the bottom left or right corner of the options menu screen, if memory serves (we're going back a few years here).
That would be your first point of call to see if hardware acceleration is really the cause of the problem (I'm sure that's what it is). |

??? ??? ???
without hardware acceleration the game looks horrible... the game is playable with hardware acceleration, but it's just difficult to setup the game without mouse cursor sorry, i'dont understand your posting :-/ |

Forget playing the game for now. :)
Firstly, let's turn off the hardware acceleration, then reboot the game to establish that the mouse cursor problem is down to that (which I'm sure it is). If the mouse appears when hardware acceleration is off, you've found your problem. Secondly, as you don't know what command you are looking for in the config file (I can't remember because it was so long ago), you will need a file comparison tool (Windiff, CSDiff, FCU). When hardware acceleration is turned OFF, make a copy of the config file to a temp location. Then go back into JK and turn ON hardware acceleration. Save the changes, come out of the game and make a second copy of the config file, place it in the same location as the other, but remember to save it as something else, DO NOT overwrite the first file. Do a file compate to find the differences in the two config files you copied. Play about with the field(s) that are different, and see if you get lucky. |
