Title: Strange Quantum3D devices in stock
Post by hard1k on 19.04.16 at 11:29:42
Hi guys!

Accidentally I've run across a recycler who has a stock of some Quantum3D hardware:
http://www.dfsales.net/manufacturers/QUANTUM
http://www.dfsales.net/manufacturers/QUANTUM3D

For instance, what I've identified so far, include:

1. Quantum3D GCI (Game Controller Interface), an I/O Subsystem used in arcade cabinets to interface with all those buttons / sensors / coin-op devices, etc.
http://www.dfsales.net/items/GCI2
Despite the ridiculous price of $650, the head of the company seems to be likely to help with the dumping of that diskette and scanning of those manuals! I'm already negotiating with him on that, so please wait a little bit till we get somewhere :)

2. Quantum3D nVSENSOR naked PCBs!
http://www.dfsales.net/items/600085004
He has 68 (!!!) of them in stock! It's really sad that hardware was extremely customized with proprietary Xilinx chips, so I don't see any probability that those remaining PCBs can ever get populated even with the huge efforts from the AAlchemy owners' community.

However, there are some items that are totally strange to me.
He has some different PCI risers bearing Q3D logo, their descriptions are vague:
MALLARD PCI RISER CARD BOM: http://www.dfsales.net/items/650150101 (no picture)
MALLARD PCI RISER CARD ICG FX BOM: http://www.dfsales.net/items/650151001 (no picture)
MALLARD RISER CARD PCB REV 01: http://www.dfsales.net/items/600150101 (no picture)
MALLARD PCI RISER CARD, ICG FX BOM:
http://www.dfsales.net/items/650151101 (the picture is broken)
MALLARD PCI RISER CARD SRIWILLBOM: http://www.dfsales.net/items/650150501 (there is a picture at last! however it sheds no light on the possible function of the device...)

I've tried to google MALLARD PCI already, but with absolutely no luck. Any ideas what on Earth could these be made for?

:o wow!!! Nice find man!
Too bad that jamma interface is so expensive, but it is a rare fid these days.
Thanks for sharing!

You are welcome :)

If anyone is interested in the GCI module, the owner of that store offered me both that are in stock for USD 200 / each, totalling USD 400 for both.
As I already have one (although not complete in box like the ones being offered), I don't think to spend even that amount on this piece.

I'm interested in it. I'll be contacting him soon!
We're you the one who won the quicksilver parts auction on ebay? I believe it included one of those modules...I forgot to bid!

Great!
When you get it, pleeeeeease make an image of the enclosed diskette(s) and scan the manual(s)!
I've already got some tools and PDFs for that, but the main part - SDK, including drivers (exactly what the guy has on that diskette!) is completely missing. I'm already trying to get that from Q3D support, but that correspondence is ridiculous - they are trying to escape from me with their EOL arguments, but I'm firm as a rock ;D

Yes, that was me :) Btw I was VERY surprised that nobody else bid on it! And yes, it includes the GCI-2 as well as the QuickSilver II sticker. The rest of the lot is junk for me.
