Title: In case you were wondering what I was up to...
Post by gdonovan on 31.05.12 at 12:09:16

I have spent the last several weeks prepping and starting to assemble a 24 x 40 x 12 garage for my gasoline powered toys ;-)

In the process I ended up buying a Chrysler powered forklift too! Didn't plan on it but grew tired of unreliable contractors and picked it up for a song.

I have never done anything this large before been interesting!

Here is a public link to the Facebook album if you want to watch the progress, insulation and walls should be done this weekend.

I was already following the pictures at Facebook, but nice work Gary! A good place to store your cars and fix 'm up a little!

There will be more than "a little" fixing up going on in there ;-)

Installed the walk door and frame the last two days, Friday night was crazy as I was out till 2AM drilling the last of the anchor holes and running epoxy.

That looks very substantial indeed. Enough room for a second floor :)

The first 12 feet of insulated wall is up! Slow but sure progress. Of course it is to rain the next 3 days  :P

Actually there is going to be one or two 4-post storage lifts in the back section so I can park at least 4, maybe 5 cars in the back leaving the front half open for work.

In theory I can fit three cars in the back now (22 foot wide interior) which leaves slightly over 7 feet width for each car. I should be able to set up two lifts and after cars are raised in the air slip a smaller car in the center.

I'll do a diagram in a minute.

The black blocks are actually the posts on each corner of the lift and the shaded area is where the platform is where the car sits. As you can see, once a car is in the air on either side a smaller vehicle on dollies can easily be rolled into the middle area for maximum use of floor space. There should be nothing preventing a lift from going up or down with a small car in this area.

I wasn't, the design was "baked in the cake"

Going horizontal costs lots of money and space, vertical not near as much!

Put in 12 hours up on the roof yesterday, the end is at last in sight!

Have some sealer to do up there and 10 pieces of trim and work will be complete. I'm taking Monday off (cough-cough) and hope to have everything wrapped up this week.

All the major work is done, just need to call the building inspector on Tuesday to sign off on it.

Whew.

I had planned to do the electric service and driveway next month but will wait till spring since I'm already behind at least 2 months on projects! The price of paving has shot up due to a refinery fire in California, best to wait a few months for the price to drop.

One inspection done, now waiting for last.

Spent yesterday moving cars about, cleaning and moving lift components into postion. Nice to get the space back in the workshop where the lift was being stored!

Awesome 8-)

Looks like you're ready for the last inspection. When does it take place?
