Title: Voodoo3 on modern (Core2Duo) system - is it safe?
Post by Huk on 28.07.10 at 11:07:31
Hello everybody.

This is my first post here - please be "gentle" ;]

Some time ago, I bought Voodoo 3 2000 PCI card. Now, I was wondering - is it safe to use this card with my Core2Duo PC? I found some warnings about overheating problems with banshee, but there is a note for Voodoo3 as well:

Quote:
This overheating effect has been observed to a lesser extend with the Voodoo3 as well.

What does "to a lesser extend" means? Is it safe, or unsafe to try this card with modern PC?

Exact PC specs:

Motherboard: Asus P5Q SE
CPU: C2D E7200
RAM: 4x1024 Kingston
PowerSupply: Chiftec CFT-600-14-CS

Thanks in advance for the answers.

P.S

Sorry for my English

You should be ok, as long as you add sone active cooling there. A fan blowing air from the side should be more than enough, if it's not hot inside your.

I think, I'll try to put a small fan from the other card on the V3 radiator then.

Thank you.

Both Voodoo3 and Voodoo4 worked just fine here in i965 motherboards with Pentium D and Core 2 Duo. I didn't add extra cooling on the passive Voodoo3 cards.

Yes,it could be OK,no worry about it,plenty of power to feed Voodoo3,and PCI is a general bus interface.so V3 PCI can run on all mobos with PCI slots.(except the early mobo without enough power maybe),I have runned V3 PCI on Tyan S2875 with AMD 8000series chips which is my latest mobo till now. ;)
