Weird benchmarks
06.04.10 at 23:16:21
I was doing some quake 2 benchmarks today witha 4500 pci and a 5500PCI and a 5500 agp.
Tested PCI cards in an ABIT NF7 nforce motherboard with amd 2500+ 1gB ram 2x 512mb (dual channel)
Tested PCI and Agp card in my a7a266 motherboard with amd 1700+ 1gB ram 1x1gb
Agp card was the fastest with the slowest processor, the 4500 pci was faster with 2xAA with the slowest processor and faster at higher resolutions. The 5500 pci was faster with the slower processor at 2xAA and 4xAA.
Testing was done at:
640x480
800x600
1024x768
1280x960
No sound and with no AA, 2AA and 4AA (5500 only),same memory type used in both boards.
Strange results ?

Same OS ? Drivers ?
Was Quake II a multitexturing game ?
But definitively these benchs seems weird for my

In other words: the PCI-cards in the nForce2 system are slower than the AGP/PCI-cards with ALi M1647 chipset? Maybe the PCI/AGP-bus is faster in that motherboard
.
I've also seen a Pentium III-S 1400 with i815 which scores better with Aquamark 3 than a Pentium 4 3.8GHz with i865PE
. It's not always a matter of CPU-speed
.

There wasn't a huge difference in speed but it was enough to make me ponder.

Well, I've done some more benchmarking with quake 2. I think in the higher resolutions I have found the maximum fps the card will do regardless of the CPU., with little difference between the PCI and th AGP cards.
In lower resolution there is a larger difference between AGP and PCI with improvements using a faster CPU as well.
All tests done with same drivers, OS ect
