Let me guess: Primary Image Piranha? Since you already own a Barracuda it's the next logical step... ;)

Not sure on that, I don't even know if the board works. What a piece of equipment though! Came from Europe via a contact in the UK, I'm VERY lucky. |

Nope, this board has nothing to do with 3dfx or Quantum3D. Aside from using 3dfx chips! This was a production board, assuming you had the (buckets of) cash. |

Can we expect multi-texture benchmarks from this puppy? (Compared to a standard Voodoo Graphics a Q3D SB50-4440 and a Q3D 100DB?)

Title: Re: Voodoo Graphics SLI with 3 TMU Post by Eye-Q on 05.09.06 at 23:32:40 wrote on 05.09.06 at 23:19:36:
This means 16 MB per Voodoo Graphics chipset = 4 MB per chip (1 FBI + 3 TMU = 4 chips)... If Q3D would have built such a card it would have been the Obsidian 100SB-4444. That is really awesome - normal Voodoo Graphics had one TMU, Q3D which was high-end hat two TMU's but this is the monster par excellence aka highest-end... |
Title: Re: Voodoo Graphics SLI with 3 TMU Post by gdonovan on 05.09.06 at 23:35:34 wrote on 05.09.06 at 23:32:40:
$8000-$9000 USD+ per board (if my notes were right) I have to double check the ram chip markings, the P-I ads indicate 64 not 32 mb of ram with the SLI board attached. |

Yes it certainly is... ... If there was a 100SB 4444 it would have been 24MB And it looks like you can strap (SLI) more cards together? Any insight on that Gary? |
Title: Re: Voodoo Graphics SLI with 6 TMU Post by gdonovan on 06.09.06 at 03:28:55
You can hook 8 of them together, and a cruncher too.
See: http://www.thedodgegarage.com/3dfx/primary_image.htm there is a bunch of info there in regards to the board. Happy-Happy! The disc I was given is chuckloaded with drivers, demos and manuals, yippie! |

The manual doesn't indicate so but it does have a connector that looks like for a floppy drive plug. I will proceed with caution of course. |
Title: Re: Voodoo Graphics SLI with 6 TMU Post by gamma742 on 06.09.06 at 03:40:08
Those stand-offs look a lot like the ones on the 100DB 4440 proto-type.
Are they the same? |

Site updated with pics and pdf file.
I'm testing the board now, so far not bad. 1) The board's green LED's are all lit. 2) Windows detects 2 Voodoo Graphics based devices. Just waiting for drivers to transfer over the network... |

or Quake3 Arena ver 1.32 if possible ;D it should be able to run Q3A fine since it has a whopping 64 MB of ram!

Not sure that will work with Pirahna, but might with Barracuda. You see a glide driver is required and both these boards run through Tempest which doesn't have a normal glide handle. I do have glide dll's for Barracuda though. |
Title: Re: Voodoo Graphics SLI with 6 TMU Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 07.09.06 at 12:53:33
hmm maybe the glide.dll's of the Barracuda might work on the Piranha, since the Big Barra should be able to do the same 3d renders as it's predecessor the Piranha ;)
Just an idea there :) If that does not work what about the Glide.dll's of a Voodoo Graphics or an Obsidian 100DB-4440? |

Title: Re: Voodoo Graphics SLI with 6 TMU Post by paulpsomiadis on 07.09.06 at 21:05:55
@Gary - I'm assuming that you had the same problem as the Q3D stuff with Screen cap. programs... ::)
...namely that a camera picture shows ALL the detail that the card renders, whilst a screen cap. program only captures one TMU and looks crappy. :P Then again. maybe not - I'm just assuming! :-X |
Title: Re: Voodoo Graphics SLI with 6 TMU Post by gdonovan on 07.09.06 at 21:57:50
Have not had a chance to try any screen cap problem, the one picture I took was minutes before I had to leave for work ;D

Developer maybe? So far the board functions flawless. Worked on the Barracuda board tonight, still have a bit of work to do before I try running it again. Some stuff was knocked off by the lout on Ebay. Maybe tomorrow I'll try some more screenshots, I think I have hypersnap around here somewhere... |
Title: Re: Voodoo Graphics SLI with 6 TMU Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 08.09.06 at 12:29:44
use IrFaNView Gary it works perfect with OpenGL, Direct3D and Glide Screenshots :)
You can ven set the gamma if pics are too dark and so on and sharpen them if needed. here's IrFanView, It free and it's all you need!: http://tucows.alaska.net/files2/iview398.exe |

I can try it but I'll stress this point again- The Piranha card doesn't use any of those API's. Just Tempest. |
Title: Re: Voodoo Graphics SLI with 6 TMU Post by gdonovan on 09.09.06 at 03:50:34 wrote on 08.09.06 at 12:29:44:
No dice- Piranha works with two monitors and the program captures whatever the primary screen is showing. I did get a nice screenshot of the Tempest control panel though. |
Title: Re: Voodoo Graphics SLI with 6 TMU Post by gdonovan on 09.09.06 at 04:00:38
I figured out how to get the screenshot to function ;D
Some troops working out. Joyriding about in a tank. Coming in for a landing! Amazing stuff for 1996!!! |

Nice B744 Gary !! w000t B744 = Boeing 747-400 ;)
does it fly well, is there also a cockpit mode? Anyways the graphics look pretty sicko for that time of day, man glad to see you got it's runn'n and does it need Windows NT4.0 + SP6 to run or does 98SE do the job well enough? |
Title: Re: Voodoo Graphics SLI with 6 TMU Post by gdonovan on 09.09.06 at 19:20:28
There is an "inside view" but I have not found a cockpit setting yet.
Runs fine under Windows 98SE. |

There is none. The early glide games never used cockpit view. It's the same for all early glide games. I never knew why is that so... D3D had the cockpit view. |
