Quote:
Huang noted in court "I was interested in the engineers, that was my primary interest all along." Yet the engineers were not formally included in the deal because "The two companies had been in competition for so long, the animosity would be so significant that forcing their engineers to come to Nvidia would be impossible." This required individual wooing, with Jen-Hsun personally involving himself in the interviews, resulting in 100 hires out of 120 possibles.

Ha! The real reason nVidia bought 3dfx; they were jealous! (Huang is btw nVidia's CEO)

ofcourse they were. 3dfx had superior designs in a lotta aspects.

they may not have had the performance crown at the time of their demise, but their image quality was far better then that of nVidia.

And if I remember correctly, 3DFX was, and still is the only company that had hardware FSAA.

I think I read somewhere that FSAA is done by shaders and all that stuff by nVidia and ATI, but with the T-buffer, 3DFX was the only one that had hardware rendered FSAA, is that correct??

No, the other cards of course had Hardware FSAA as well, they just didn't have the quality (i.e. Rotated Grid Super-Sampling) until recently.

Yes Exactly, nVidia had Ordered Grid Super-Sampling  FSAA mode which was indeedly far less detailed qua image quallity that Rotated Grid Multi Sample FSAA which 3dfx utilized
