I think VOGONS has a list somewhere, and somebody was making one on the 3Dfxzone forums. I'm too tired to look for them right now, though.

Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by Micha on 15.02.04 at 16:35:01
keep cool, no problem! i just thought to give you an advice.. :) anyway, i couldn't found better pages than the one you posted...
luckily you raised this topic again, here's why: at all, it seems like some pages delivering a list of glide games are cluttered with wrong informations...sad...so i asked inside the other thread to create a list on our own, but so far: nobody cares..hm :-/ |
Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by janskjaer on 16.02.04 at 16:58:43
Good idea! :D
We could also use references from this topic, as more gamers post reviews of the games they have tried with their Voodoo cards. Another link here: http://home.t-online.de/home/ce-ge/compatib.htm |

that's one of the lists i replied to... --> i don't think HALO supports FXT1 compression & the placement of Unreal 2 is totally wrong. you all see, this list isn't up to date for German speekers try this short and useful lists for glide games: http://www.voodooalert.de/content/glide1.php and for voodoo compatibility: http://www.voodooalert.de/content/kompatibilitaet.php |

I'm happy today as I just snagged myself an Orchid Righteous 3D! ;D (with 'clicky' relays) ;D ;D
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4124809359 Talking on the subject of supported games, does anyone know which GLiDE games are for Voodoo 1 ONLY? ??? i.e., they will NOT even run on a Voodoo 2, even with a DOS batch file run. :P e.g. Tombraider is supposed to be Voodoo 1, but a batch file can make it run on Voodoo 2... ::) Any thoughts anyone? ??? |
Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by Micha on 20.04.04 at 11:51:41
bet every 'voodoo1 only' game runs at least on a voodoo2 as the hardware of both cards is very similar..heard even voodoo1 had implemented sli shit, but you might know that already..
so far i haven't seen a game only running on a voodoo1 in glide mode. |
Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by paulpsomiadis on 21.04.04 at 00:18:31
Yah, Voodoo 1 did have SLI... ;)
...but I think it was only the Quantum cards that did this for the Voodoo 1. ::) It would be cool if someone worked out how to do it with NON-Quantum Voodoo 1's though! :o ;D |
Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by Micha on 21.04.04 at 08:46:42
well, you'd need the sli connector onboard, anyway..so i see no way to do it :-/
|
Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by paulpsomiadis on 22.04.04 at 00:48:56
Yah, Quantum 'multi-SLI' style Voodoo cards would be nice! ;D
But... ::) 1. you're correct that we're getting off topic (although this thread is a 'bit' stagnant). ::) 2. Micha is 'almost' correct. It would be best if you had the SLI connectors on each of the Voodoo 1 cards...however it WOULD be possible to acheive SLI WITHOUT the connectors if you knew where each point of the SLI cable was connected to on each card... :P If you'd like to continue I'd suggest opening another thread in the Tech Talk area...I'll do that now! ;) |

About the voodoo1 SLI. You need to find someone with a voodoo1 SLI (100db/100xs). And then look with line is used for the SLI and how they are connected. A little bit of soldering wil do the trick.

Dethkarz is a really a good glide game. The perfect mix between p.o.d and battle race. I think wipeout xl and rollcage are in the same tradition.

Yeah man!! WipEout 2097 (a.k.a. Wipeout XL) and Rollcage/Rollcage StageII are THE BEST futuristic/arcade race games EVER!! ;D Both made by Psygnosis (I played them at PSX and PC-Voodoo as well)!! BTW.. What hepened with Psygnosis?! Every game they made was outstanding legend!! (I know that in mid '90 they were bought by Sony CE, and continued to publish games by old label. I was frequenter at they web-page at those days, but suddenly at 2000 or 2001 they dissapeared. Web page, games, support..!!! Never heared of them since then.) :o Anyone noticed that Psygnosis dissapeared almost in the same time as 3Dfx !!! :'( |
Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 07.12.04 at 13:02:06
StarWars - Racer is the best Voodoo game around, it has the most speed I've ever seen, hehe I had Neva Kee's pod racer and my max speed was 1287 Kph with afterburners enabled.
With Ben Quadinaros my top speed was 1504 kph with afterburners enabled :P Useing your brakes with that speed is nearly pointless, especially when you brake down from 1504Kph to a mere 1100 Kph and then you hit a nice mountain wall and then you're strait down dead to zero :-X It runs fine on my Voodoo5 5500 AGP at reso 1024 x 768 x16 @ Glide with FSAA x4 with a nice avr. 48 fps :) |

Psygnosis got bought by SCEE in 1999. According to Gamestats, it basically became SCEE Studios Cambridge. Be nice if I could find out where my copy of Wipeout 2097 went... I think I lent it to someone and never got it back :/ |

hmm what about the game Terminal Velocity? that was also Glide capable with a patch or not? I use to have that game it was really wierd but it did have speed, it was abit like Descent.

nope I prefer the PC version, Why, well Very simple you can play it with a real 3dfx card with FSAA support which a N64 does not have, in other words the PC version has way better graphics. period. I play the game on my 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP 64MB Rev.A 2500 at 1024 x 768 x 16 with 4x FSAA @ 42 frames per sec Avr., that's kinda impossible on a N64 [glb]3dfx PC accelerators. So powerful, it's kind of redicilous[/glb] |
Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by gamma742 on 26.12.04 at 18:24:40
I agree!!
But I'm a huge fan of FSAA done correctly by 3dfx. |
Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 27.12.04 at 20:47:48
BTW my max speed with Ben Quadinaros was 1504 Mph with Afterburners and with Neva Kee was 1286 Mph :) hehe that's well over the 2000 kph ;)

Ooohh yes, that was the great game, but I played it at my PC 486/DX2 80MHz. Is there an enhanced glide (or d3d) version?? I didnt know about it! If there is a patch or "accelerated" version, let me know please!? 3D Realms had fantastic games at those times! (Duke Nukem 3D, Terminal Velocity, Shadow Warrior..) I'm still waiting for Duke Nukem Forever! (It supposed to come out at 1999)!! |

unless with Quake4 and Enemy Territory : Quake Wars, they are gonna be made with OpenGL2.0 from SGi! now that is brutal power for an API, I suppose OpenGL2.0 won't be such aproblem because we have MesaFX :)

Well Rollage is really a good game.
Driving those wierd cars that can flip upside down at hudge speeds while shooting various rockets and bullets to the other player and braking most of the scene's builidings/plants is quite exciting. ;) |
Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by st4r4m4m4 on 27.09.05 at 14:47:38
Ok checked, I'd go for a positive on the Rollcage 1 glide support.

Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by TM30 on 27.09.05 at 20:15:37
yeah rollcage rulez!
its funny that you can drive at the top of the tunnel if you're fast enogh, so you see your enemys upside down on the other side hehe |
Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 28.09.05 at 01:43:21
sounds L33T guys :) gpt some pics of Rollcage 1 & 2?

Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by st4r4m4m4 on 28.09.05 at 12:40:26
Well here's Rollcage (1) :)
Ok this one would be like breaking groundspeed records to regain some positions (see the air friction aura in front huh): One sample of total destruction... poor little (khmm big) building Some guided rockets flying over the cars (special type of rockers aiming the current 1#) Bit of drivin' downtown... on the roof of the tunnel ;D From snow... (on the left automatic aiming for environment destruction guided rockets... sweet) ...to lava For more pics (and actual res.) I made a directory here: http://193.77.238.223/3Dfx/rollcage/ All this run on: PII 400, 256MB PC133, Voodoo5 5500 AGP @1024x768 16bpp and 4x FSAA |
Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 28.09.05 at 13:25:16
hmm okay looks sweet indeed, reminds me of StarWars Episode 1 Racer :), but in Racer the speeds are much greater hehe. my max speed in the Neva Kee pod with afterburner was like 1287 MPH :-X talk about speed out of contol haha I hit a wall and man it was like wiieee @ 1287 mph and BOOM aarggh dead @ 0mph LOL hahaha ;D ;D ;D
but yeah Rollcage seems to give great gameplay, gotta find the game now hehe, my PII 350 with V5 5500 AGP Rev.A 2300 and AWE64 Gold! could use a game like that ;) Thanx again St4r4m4m4 8) |
Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by st4r4m4m4 on 28.09.05 at 13:47:51
No problem at all ;)
I did spend a lot of time on these Rollcage games (but I can't seem to find my Rollcage2) And I really enjoyed a lot, also Rollcage 2 has some interesting game modes more, like "Scrambe" very technically oriented, driving on narrow very bumpy strips of floating land at high speeds to achive an appropriate timing without falling down. |
Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 28.09.05 at 20:08:27
oie that sounds cool :) well I'll keep an eye on that game if I can catch it on the big computer sale @ Utrecht this yeah :) it's like a mini comdex like thing lot's of new Computer Hardware and SoftWare packed in 6 big halls, where also lot's of old gear and software can be found for a cheapo price. :)

Gotta love the colours our trusty 3dfx cards could pump out especially considerring how far ahead they were in their time.
3dfx + Glide could turn the slowest computer into a gaming arcade machine! |
Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 15.06.06 at 21:46:11
gotta agree on the colours that 3dfx Glide API gives, simply outperforms 32Bit OpenGL and 32Bit Direct3D allrighty :-* :-* that's pure 3dfx sweetness, and that still makes me use my 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 PCI 64MB Rev.A1 2900 infront of my Sapphire ATi X1900 XTX in old games, 3dfx Glide just looks way better on a real 3dfx can than emulated on an Ati, nVidia or other vendored card, therefore I totally agree there mate, you have a great 3dfx spirit!!! 8)

Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by elfuego on 17.06.06 at 00:22:25
Rollcage is interestingly a very well optimised game. It runs just as well in Glide as in DirectX mode. It is the game in which my friend actually showed me "the power of Riva TNT". It 'was '97 or '98 & Riva just wasn't ready. But I remember one thing.
To show me the power of the card he ran Rollcage in some crazy resolution (1024x768 or 1280x1024), started some background programs plus Winamp (MP3 music instead of CD audio from rollcage). And Rollcage ran perfectly. At that moment I felt for the first time the limitation of resolution offered by Voodoo 1... |

yesterday I tried some older games on my 5500.
Probably already in the list, but rogue squadron works flawlessly on glide. Was playing @ 1280x1024x32, gonna try with AA tonight and get some screenies. I also tried hot pursuit 2, seems that it has glide support, is that correct?? If not, it still runs fine @ 1024x768 with 2xAA, but it sure does look nice. :) @ obi-wan You mean the HCC dagen?? I'm going as well this year, hope to find nice stuff and all, ya never know. :) |
Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by BeerWolf on 13.06.07 at 07:38:41
Then theres my favorite flight sim: Red Baron 3D.
No missles, radar, or cockpit switches. Single player, or massive multiplayer (up to 76 at a time!) Didn't do well in the stores, as it doesn't have an arcade mode. You have to FLY the plane, while trying to get the other guy. You actually more likely to destroy your own plane in flight than be shot down, just as in WWI. It's hard, but I like it. There are still people making mods and new patches, though the company that made it went under years ago. |

I was wondering... Anyone knows if NFS: Porsche works in Glide API ? :-/ Or maybe a patch for that ? :P
Here says that it supports Glide but i doubt it. ??? I remember playing it on my Voodoo4 4500 but worked only in Direct3D mode. So, any info on that ? 8) |
Title: Re: Glide Games List Post by Rolo01 on 07.12.07 at 13:47:43
The game DOES run in Glide, but you have to fool it :
Just rename voodoo2z.dll to dx7z.dll ( backup the original dx7z.dll first ). After that the game runs in Glide mode on a Voodoo4/5. |
