The VSA 101 supports 128 bit  ram. The Voodoo4 4800 uses 128 bit ddr ram Wink.

I can double check but according to source DDR 64 bit only with VSA-101, it was a low end part.

okay never knew that so actually VSA-101's only advantage was that it's 0,18 micron and it can operate at high speeds without cooling and it can have a max memory amount of 256MB per chip, or was that the Rampage?

I do mess up sometimes lol  Roll Eyes

As far as I know the 128bit DDR Daytona cards were planned but never realised.
My V4-2 4800 has a 64bit memory interface, too.
No speed gain when compared to a regular V4-4500 with 128bit SDR.
I heard rumours that even the VSA-100 should support DDR memory, but that interface was faulty and then deactivated.
Does anyone know whether the VSA-101 could also operate with SDRAM ?

Well Sorry people, than I got the wrong information from someone. Well If the VSA 101 supports Sdram, it would be even more strange that a Aalchemy doesn't use a VSA101.

Well there is one card that does have a VSA-101 and SDram my fellow 3dfx friends, that's this one:

3dfx Voodoo4 4000 AGP 16MB SDRAM 128Bit:

They did not make enough 101 chips so that is not a viable option, they do have to stand behind the cards and replace them if they fail.

Well Q3d has a contract with nVidia concerning VSA100 chips. Q3d can still buy VSA100 chips from nVidia, because they own all the rights.

Quantum3d has a licence with 3dfx to manufacture multi chip VSA-100 boards, has nothing to do with Nvidia.

Do you honestly think Nvidia is still making VSA-100 chips or has any?

Quantum3D shoukd still  have a  quite good stock of VSA100 chips, so they can still offer Aalchemy systems with VSA100. But i think this stock is not infinitely.

Oh I'm sure it isn't an infinite number they have, but then again they are not selling large numbers of AAlchemy AA5 systems either.

They are not in the consumer business, so the numbers sold are far smaller.

Uhm Sir, I didn't say that the 4000 AGP had DDR Wink, it is known to my research, that the Voodoo4 4000 AGP is owned by a chech, and I've read some where that this little 4000 AGP has a Daytona based chip, which leads to a VSA-101, but with 16MB SDRAM and Not DDR Ram., I wasn't sure if the card has 64Bit SDRAM or 128Bit SDRAm because the Voodoo4 4000 was a low end card, more for the budget style of people.  I read this some where at 3dfxzone.it.

Sorry, that is my mistake, should have said SDR.

I read somewhere that less then 20 intel V5-6000's were made and 3dfx was stealing designs from Nvidia which is why they are out of business.

Have to be careful about what you read on webboards. Wink

On the other hand I have this-

Hehehe its getting pretty off-topic now. Though this is right up my alley so I wont complain.

What i'd like to know how can you tell if the little 4000 has SD ram and not DDR, because I cant tell the difference between the memory on the little card and the memory on Gary's card.

And how do you guess its in the hands of a chech? I admit the card is displayed on his site but so are many other prototypes an exotic cards. Besides its still the picture of LogicalMadness.

And just to keep the topic where it was meant to be for, here is mine :
