Yeah, its pretty sad.

But after the promising Volari's, XGI didn't release any reasonable products anymore. That doomed them all the way.

Their Time-to-market is what killed them, must have been the worst in the entire industry.

What will be even more interesting, is if XGI owners will still get Driver support or witness 3dfx history repeating itself.

yeah they only lived for 2 years and 9 mounths it's sad to see the good brands leave or say die  Cry Cry Cry

At First Permedia PowerVR, then 3dfx Interactive and now XGI I mean if this keeps on happening soon there will be nothing to choose from and everything will get extreemly expensive, then the budget market wil be harmed as well.

S3 is doing quite well with thier S25 and S27 Chromes products let's hope that they come up with something nice for an alternative, nor Matrox haven't heard from them in a while either.

As for Ati I rather see ATi make use of some XGI tech's instead of nvida, I do see that happen hehe.

and maybe we will see Multi GPY setups from ATi combined with XGI's DUO technology with ATi's CrossFire technology on one PCB Smiley

Question is after reading this though, does XGI have any technologies that will really benifit ATI? I can understand having a bigger presents in a market and maybe getting some programmers in there that will create some decent Linux drivers for once (not having Linux drivers for 5 months after the fact is crap if you ask me) which might also get you some more market shares but was XGI coming out with anything to really "Wow" the compitition (I don't know much about XGI so that's why I'm asking)? I mean looking back at the Kyro II chipset and the way it rendered things using the Tile architecture, had Nvidia or ATI bought them out instead of the licensing agreements that had gone bad with them both ATI or Nvidia might have been able to use some of that tech but with XGI was there anything that ATI could really use?

well,ATI did make a good use of everything they have acquired in the past (unlike nv).I guess XGI wont be an exception..

yes exactly nVidia didn't even make use of 3dfx's way of SLI after that I did some research they hardly use anything which is kinda stupid of them.

ATi has indeed used every bit of technology they learnt and bought from other companies, that's the power of teh Underdog Wink

maybe ati will profit from XGI's "two-chips-on-one-pcb" knowledge...
there are some prototype like the dual 9700 but no retail-card on the market like nvidia's dual 7800gt...

yeps there are more form ATi with that idea Smiley

ATi Rage Fury MAXX:
...

ATi Radeon 256 DDR MAXX
...

ATi Radeon 8500 MAXX
...

CAE - Tropos (4x Radeon 8500)
...

Evans and Sutherland - simFUSION 6000d (2x Radeon 9700)
...

Evans and Sutherland - simFUSION 6000q (4x Radeon 9700)
...

Sapphire Ati Radeon 9800 MAXX:
...
...
...

here a great review about it Smiley
http://www.ixbt.com/video2/sapphire-8.shtml

as you can see ATi MAXX is quite powerfull but with XGI's Duo technology it may get alot better Smiley

Let's hope That Ati will combine this technology with XGI's and really the results should get ground breaking  8)

Hi Obi. Yes, I too hope ATI will use every bit of aquired technology. I don't like nVidia because they didn't use 3DFX technology, and 2nd, they have like 1 or 2 tv tuners which are horrible.

XGI I have heard of before, but it's not popular, it's sorta like hearing about human combustion on the news, rare. But from those pictures you posted, man, that does look more powerful than regular ATI cards. What would you estimate clock speeds on that too be? 400Mhz Core+ & Memory at 600Mhz? (about 30% higher for card models?)

I am suprised I heard S3 is doing well. I have a couple pci cards from them (64 Trident 4mb -or is it 1mb?). Well, I thought they weren't gaining any ground but not loosing any either. Well, later trouble makers

Kuze - For the Citizens part, they don't even recognize the massive explotation inherited in the system. They absorb only the information that appeals to them that's easy to accept. Theirs is a phony society, I want to open their eyes to that fact.

I'm not so fond of nvidia also, thier image quallity sux in common hehe but that is not the topic point but yeah I hope that Ati will make good use of CGI's tech and I'm sure they will hehe .

About that quad radeon 9700Pro each core does FSAA x6 and the speed stays the same when the user sets no FSAA to FSAA x6, FSAA x12 FSAA x18 and FSAA x24 moded there will be no difference in speed , it works like a Quantum3D AALCheme 8164 there is no speed drop between no FSAA and all 4 FSAA modes, the higher the FSAA the more cores will jump in to backup the performance and keep it in one strait line Smiley

So what you get is Better Image Quallity and no performance dropexelent for 3D Modeling, Simulations and CAD work.

Honestly, I wouldn't know what technology (apart from Video Rendering) ATI could immediately put into their Silicon.

XGI's Bitfluent engine was a severe bottleneck and never worked to it's advertised potential, besides causing lots of bugs on Games not supported.

I think ATI went after XGI's licenses and patents (plus the rights to use attached SiS and Trident patents royal-free), in addition to getting XGI's Brand name in Asia.
