Title: Steam/CS 1.6 Post by Francis Hulme on 21.09.03 at 14:39:12
Is there anything similar to WickedGL that'll work with Steam, because at the moment, there is nothing I can optimise it with, and so I'm only getting 5-20 FPS

the 3dfx miniGl driver is not so good like the openGl driver under CS.

i have renamed..if sumone else wants to try in steam / counter strike go ahead..but i have a voodoo3 and i use to run about 60fps on minigl now i get about 20-10fps or even lower on opengl for cs 1.6. When u go to video options in cs 1.6 minigl is not an option anymore in case you guys didnt know.

The rendering menu is not an issue, the 'default' option uses a dll named 'opengl32.dll' simply rename WickedGL, MiniGL, or '3dfxogl.dll' (the ICD) to 'opengl32.dll', place this file in the gldrv subdirectory (or where the CS opengl driver is located) and it will work.
-edit if minigl doesn't work try older versions if it still doesn't then you will have to use one of the other two. |

I just copied wickedGL's opengl32.dll in the counter-strike directory, with hl.exe
for me it's D:\steam\SteamApps\baptiste85@yahoo.fr\counter-strike ;) so I can play CS 1.6 with wickedGL but I'm screwed.. with CS 1.5 I use MiniGL v1.49 (looks sharper than wickedGL w/ fsaa), put in the gldrv directory. in steam/cs 1.6, the gldrv directory is still here, but no way to use the 3dfxgl.dll that is in it :D I tried to rename it to openg32.dll and place it with hl.exe.. but it just crashes. I mailed valve to complain about the absence of a way to choose "3DFX Mini Driver" in the User Interface :P |

Just to put everyone at ease, I've managed to increase my FPS significantly; it's now usually above 25 FPS constantly, rising to about 80. Basically I done everything possible- got WickedGL to work [replacing 3dfxgl.dll in /cstrike with the WickedGL file opengl32.dll, and renaming it 3dfxgl.ddl. Using HLToolz, an FPS optimiser program, tweaking some bios settings, adding 256 RAM [now I have 350MBs], and adding the heapsize parameter to the launch options. There.
