Title: Does the Q3D 100SB need modified drivers?
Post by gamma742 on 20.10.04 at 23:54:06

I did a fresh install of 98 and the I Q of the 100SB just looks really bad. The Q3D drivers detect the card correctly.

I wanted to find out from you guys...

Should this card work with the drivers from this site:

Quantum Obsidian series Driver for Win95
(50, 50 TVout, 100SB/DB, 100SB MGV)

Or do I need to get some .inf files to add or modify?

I've tried this card in 3 different machines. My PII 233 66fsb and my PIII 500 100fsb the just for the heck of it I put it in my AMD 2400+ 133/266fsb.

They all run 98SE same Q3D drivers and 8.1 directx except the AMD has 9.0b or c directx.

I have run my 100SB with both the last Quantum3D Obsidian drivers and the 3dfx Voodoo Graphics drivers with no problem- Unreal, Quake I/II/II and Turok, no driver mods required.

Hi,

when you say the IQ looks "bad" can you be more specific?

I recently upgraded my primary card from a GeForce2 GTS to a GeForce 6800.  For years I've run a screensaver called Organic Art (a version of which was even a free download from Microsoft at one point).  Now this screensaver is flawed in its DirectX implementation.  It just about ran OK on the GeForce2 but the 6800 throws it completely.  So I've switched it over to run on my Voodoo2 SLI just like I did years ago.  Now I would never call the IQ of my Voodoo2s "bad".  But I can tell with this screensaver that it's not running on the GeForce anymore.  This is mainly the difference between 1152x864x32 compared to the Voodoos' 1024x768x16.  But it's also down to progress.  Graphics cards get better at strutting their stuff as the years pass.

Don't get me wrong.  I love my Voodoo2s.  I still play all the Half-Life games on them and WickedGL rather than on nVidia's hardware (and, yes, I've compared them and realise the GeForce may be "technically" superior).  It's just a matter of nostalgia, taste and that certain indefinable quality that keeps us Voodooing.  That and all that DOS and Windows glide loveliness.  ;D

If by "bad" you mean really BAD then perhaps there's something wrong with the hardware.  Without access to another 100SB this one's going to be difficult to confirm.

Certainly the drivers should just work.

You're not trying to run the card on an LCD screen or anything are you?  ???
