Title: 'Performance trilinear on newer 82xx and 8464 AAs?

Hello guys  :). Searching on the net today I found an old post from Anandtech, with info from Q3D which talked about newer AAlchemy models and also mentioned a feature called 'Performance Trilinear':

Quote:
Performance Trilinear

On previous AAlchemy systems, enabling trilinear filtering forced the 3dfx VSA-100 chips on board into a single-pixel-per-clock mode of operation. By modifying the Parallel Rendering Architecture FPGA and driver software in these new AAlchemy models, we've enabled the 3dfx VSA-100 chips to provide trilinear filtering while concurrently operating in a two-pixel-per-clock or 'Performance Trilinear' mode. With Performance Trilinear, we've effectively doubled the fill rate performance on these new models. AAlchemy was already the performance and price/performance leader in the industry--now we've opened the gap between the competition and us even further (Stated Ross Q. Smith, Founder and VP of Sales; Marketing at Quantum3D)

Was this feature ever introduced? Did Quantum3D really made hardware modifications to the newer 82xx SB and 84xx DB cards in order to make it possible?, thus having the need to differentiate them, the newer cards, capable of this new feature with the 82xx SB - 84xx DB nomenclature from the earlier, 81xx SB - 82xx DB cards?

And, can it somehow be used with the "older", AAlchemy 8164 perhaps with newer drivers?

I already sent a pm to gary via YT but perhaps some of you might know something about this too  ;)

Greetz!

This feature was introduced, I think with Rev B or C cards. Every card produced in 2001 (PCB date for example 0110) should be capable of two pixels per clock.

A hardware mod might turn older cards to be capable of operating two pixel per clock, but this would need some research.

Really interesting  8-)...  perhaps someone at Quantum3D could provide us more info and help us with a possible modification :)
